You're chosing vinyl over paint these days?

yes i do! PLUS (a) i covered my other nintendo cabs in vinyl as well and (b) the laminate originally used basically looks like vinyl and (c) I HATE PAINTING!!!

started working on the sides! right side is almost finished, filled all the holes and repaired the edges, now i'm waiting for one final new product to arrive to get an absolutely smooth surface!!!

while waiting, i'm turning my attention to the huge "gorge" on the left side of the cabinet. in order to fix it, i have to "clean" it first!

now i have a good base to work with

using my router to cut the groove

in goes a piece of wood as a sturdy base for the bondo

i'm using the other side of the cab to create a template

putting the template on top

copied the shape on the wood - now i can cut it ROUGHLY to shape

finally, bondo on the outside ...

... and on the inside

can't wait to sand it all down and see how this turns out!!!
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

That is a professional way of repairing such damages!  :)

By the way,  by now you surely must get bulk discount on bondo,  don't you?   ;D

well, in fact in already make bulk buys on that stuff, although it is still quite pricey. but once again you can see / feel the difference between cheap and expensive!

Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!

just a quick update to see how the operation turned out! sanding the top layer flat ...

... tracing the outline of the cab and getting it into shape!

as you can see, there are a few small holes to fill and the grove to be cut for the t-molding, but all in all i would call it a huuuge success :)

thx to michael for that idea :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
