[Superully's Restoration] Radar Scope - Damage Meter to Zero
« on: October 28, 2014, 07:30:14 PM »

following my radar scope hotel roadtrip, i've decided that the next cabinet "to bring home" is going to be RADAR SCOPE. i've done a pretty good inventory of what's there, of what's missing and of what cruelties have been done to the cabinet in my roadtrip report, so if you're interested or if you have missed it (shame on you then) just go through it again.

here's the cabinet as it stands right now right before beginning the restoration process. the cab itself is solid (meaning no water damage), but it has seen better days for sure!

pretty dirty inside, but nothing that a vaccuum cleaner can't handle!

the famous "sanyo monitor in a box" - almost looks like a piece of 70s furniture

damage meter is still pretty high ... so watch this space! 8)
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

as one would have expected for a 30+ year old spaceship, the cabinet has battle marks all way round :'(

the worst of all being this one :shock:still not 100 per cent sure how to tackle it

but i know one thing for sure: as always, it's never a good idea to have a cabinet without leg levelers, because that's what destroys the base. unfortunately, although the nintendo cabinets do have a base to get the cabinet off the ground, the base itself doesn't have leg levelers and that's a design mistake i'm always fixing first! for that, you have to perform a simple "operation" on the cabinet: remove the old triangular pieces of wood that (amongst glue and staples) keep the base together

as clean as it gets

up next: glue in a replacement piece for the leg levelers

while working on the leg levelers issue, i can also fix the nasty damages to the base - all it needs now is a fresh coat of paint and it will look nice and presentable again

finally: screw in the leg levelers and we're good to go - those teflon levelers really make a huge difference when moving a game! which reminds me of having to buy new ones, because i'm almost out of stock ...

group buy anyone? :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:

Simple, just do the same to the right side, then they will have the same look  ;D :D ;D :D ;D

No seriously, i think you can figure it out, perhaps cut out some more and insert a new piece that you can trace from the other side ?

For the rest, its a good start ! will continue to folow this as Always  ;)

You could route into the damaged area and glue a smaller piece of plywood into it, and then bondo on top of that... ::)

that is a GREAT idea, michael, will give this a shot.

unfortunately, no real update atm, my sander died yesterday while working on the cabinet. ordered a replacement immediately, but it'll take a few days to arrive :(

That's one hell of a project!  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I think I still have an exra Control Panel and marquee. I was planning on building another someday.

Good luck with it! I regret getting rid of mine. :)

pure beauty. a nintendo-row is a must have for me. i am a bit sad that you sold them, john.
Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!

Chuckie, your collection is top notch! I really like the cocktail row and that Sheriff can't be beat! :) I'd say you got some rare stuff there. SWEET!!

When I first started collecting I had Nintendo fever. It's all I wanted! :)
