:: A.P.B :: The cop is back in town *Work In Progress*
« on: February 07, 2009, 07:13:59 PM »

Following this road trip

...the time is come to bring this ...bad guy? playable again  ::) ;D

Ok, here's the cabinet... inside the V2

As you can see... no monitor  :?

...and this time, this will be a big problem because the original monitor is a medium resolution (24K), and so, I won't be able to put a TV... OK... I'll come back on this later...  ;)

The control panel is in good shape... only dust as you see (*almost* uncleaned yet :arrow:

The original board is there... and... when I got the game more than one year ago, we plugged the game, and we heard the game... let's hope it's still working... but at least, it looks complete

...spider webs... as usual...

You gonna die very soon... sorry

Let's check the identity of the cab'

How many games played? Notice the sound board on the picture... yes, under a ton of dust  :?

OK, let's start with a good cleaning of the inside

Now, let's plug the game...and see what happens?  :pac:

One right part of the marquee is lightening up.

...the board is up too...

I press the coin switch... and ... YES  :) I can play the game... I'm blind ... but I can hear the sounds during my actions (accelerate, siren), the music and the sounds/speaks of the game.
Well, maybe everything on screen would be garbage graphics, bug, or even no display... but at this point, I still have hope  8)

Let's check how the board sends the pictures. Here's the cable

As you can see, one of the previous owners of this cab has been changed something... the connector has been modified.

Anyway, it won't change anything because... I don't have a medium resolution monitor...  :-[ ... and I don't think I'll be able to found one near to me...ultra difficult to get in Europe,  I mean of this specific size (I'm not talking about monitors for Sega Racing games for example!) ...  so what?

Here's my solution

Stay Tuned  ::) :P

I was thinking the same thing!

Good job btw, you always seem to find a neat solution when a new problem occurs ;) The 24khz to 31khz converter this time. I didn't even know that existed, I've only heard of a 15khz to 31khz converter and vice versa.

Yes...very impressive... the boards from 'Indiana Jones & the temple of Doom' (System1) are huge too... very scaring  :ghost: But for the moment, all that stuff is working (fingers crossed)  :P :-*

Yes, this interface is very impressive... it can do anything  :) ...and it has all the connectors, see

From left to right : GND, S (I believe it's a composite signal?, or maybe a negative Sync?), Vertical Sync, Horizontal Sync, Blue, Green, Red  :-*

I love this 9" monitor... so useful as you can see  ;D

First game played here

This picture is so funny, the steering wheel looks bigger than that 9" monitor ;D ;)

Altough it is nice to have such a small monitor for testing purposes.

For information, a 'seat' option was available for that cabinet, see the fixation here

...I don't have the seat, but I don't care... 'coz, back the Days, I didn't played that game on a seat  8)

Ok, so the next step is... put a monitor here :

'until I will find a 'medium resolution' 20" monitor, I'll use this VGA screen

Same one, but 'naked'  :P

After a small adjustment in the wood... it fits  8)

Because I don't have the original frame, I'm fixing the monitor like this

Cool, I'll let the 'geometry/color setting' control panel attached, like this

It will be hidden by the bezel  8)

OK, quick test... power on  ::)

so simple with a converter...  ::)

the image doesn't seem too bad.
maybe beacause the gap isn't that important between 24K and 31K monitors
than with 15K and 31K
