It has been a while, time for a little update. The cave is in a new phase, the walls have been plastered. Next up floor heating, then ceiling.

Wow, that is looking great, and will last many generations.  I wish building was done like that here, instead of wood.  I believe it is cost that keeps anyone here from building like that.

Great job... Can't wait too see more!

Wow.... That is complicated!    Am I not understanding.. but do yall have extreme winters? ..I mean, to be heating the floors?

Looks like you will be putting in a boiler?   When Bruno built his game room, it has no Air Conditioner that I can see, Just heaters.   What is your typical temperatures and humidity levels there throughout the year?

Also, why not have a colored concrete floor?  The pipes would be safe forever!!

When you put the heating system in the floor, you don't need  elements on the walls.

I have it in my home and it's really nice

the major drawback to underfloor heating is the cost, used to have it in an old building I used to live in - is damn expensive!

Its pretty common here although I don't have it as I have a Parket (wooden) floor. I have a regular central heating unit (natural gas) which pumps hot water to radiators throughout the house, like the vast majority of heating is over here).

Advantages:
- very even heating of room
- saves energy
- very comfortable
- no radiators necessary (nice in a gameroom !)

Disadvantages:
- cost of installing (but when building a new building cost is much lower because there is no top floor done yet)
- no drilling in floor
- in the rare event of a leak, you'll have to hack out the cement
- using isolating floor coverings is not advised. So better no wood or carpet, tiles are ideal.

We live in a mild sea climate so we have neither extreme winters nor extreme summers. It's just something people feel worth investing in for comfort and ease and it does save energy and thus cost.

One interesting note I found on Wikipedia:
Zeer schadelijk voor piano's en alle houten muziekinstrumenten, vanwege optrekkende droge lucht.
=
Very harmful for pianos and all wooden musical instruments because of rising dry air...........uh-oh......
