DAY 2: @RETROKADE

upon entering the premises, the first thing dominic shows us is one of his latest acquisitions: a half-life 2 dual player shooter

that thing is huuuge and although it was not that expensive (for a game of that size and rarity), dom tells us it cost almost four times that much to have it shipped over from japan to germany

it takes quite a while for the game to boot

most of the on-screen texts are in japanese, so chris needs some help here ... 8)

... but then he's right into the center of the action!

it's kill or be killed

but we're not here to play games ;), we're here to get games!!! ;D

game number one is a xybots in nice condition (albeit very dirty). it comes with a spare pcb and control panel (because the one on the machine right now has only one original joystick installed). this one is going to look great next to my vindicators. this makes xybots #3 in germany (as far as i know): one has andreas, one has toralf and now i have one as well. :)

game number two is a crystal castles - one of my personal grails. i think the cab itself is a piece of art and YES, i do like the gameplay as well!

let's get this heavy atari beast in

the game also comes with a whole new set of replacement artwork: control panel overlay, speaker art and marquee art – nice!

the games so far have been bought from various sellers across the uk and transported to dom's place, time to grab a game from his personal collection. speaking of which, this one is for MY personal taito collection (also comes with a spare board set). game number three is an elevator action

the next game is no arcade classic in the common sense (although it has a long history as well), but it's one i've bought for my best friend martin and me to bring back some childhood memories. we both are huuuge golf fans (we even play from time to time) and many many years ago we played a game called links for countless hours. and if you want to play golf on an arcade machine, there's really just one good option: golden tee. this one is the golden tee fore complete uk midi version with all available tracks installed (27 in total). let's see if we can re-capture the magic :)

dominic throws in a complete popeye kit (for picking up and delivering the adam's family to his place) which includes sideart, a control panel overlay, a marquee, a boardset, a nos joystick and some nintendo buttons

additionally, i also get a sanyo monitor because one of my nintendo cabs is missing one

right after the loading procedure, oliver aka alpha1 arrives at the unit and together we inspect the extremely rare and unique exterminator cabinet

you want to see games? now you get games :P. although his lineup of video games has shrunk drastically since the last time i was there, dominic still has an impressive collection

he basically has three "keeper rows" - here's the first one

same row from the other side, gotta love that american amidar :-*

"keeper row" #2, as far as i know the house of the dead in the back has been sold to a forum member

"keeper row" #3 (sorry, i cut off the r-type on the left)

also in "keeper row" #3 are these rare beauties :o :o :o

already sold is the omega race, but the reactor is still up for grabs. man, this is one i really really want badly. i'm currently in talks with dom about it ...

still available as well is the juno first (with a partially-working joystick). many people love that game, but i'm not into it at all (fortunately ;))

from oll's personal collection comes this uber-rare game

the food fight in almost immaculate condition is also oliver's - what a beauty!

but what is that? ???

a large part of rav's retrokade has been taken over by pinballs! :-\

and a new one has just arrived (along with oliver): fish tales

the fish on the top of the pinball is an omen of things to come: water, water, everywhere ...

to be continued ...
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

Talking about Halflife, halflife 1 is one of my favorite PC shooters, halflife 2 is cool, but i preffer 1
cant wait untill they finish blackmesa source.. which is basicly halflife 1 in the halflife 2 engine..

Anyway, great collection there!, and you take some cool games there !

You should have real fun there, Rav has a very unique collection of games. :D
My favourite was Tutankham from that row, I've never seen a dedicated one in Europe yet.

MH?

My favourite was Tutankham from that row, I've never seen a dedicated one in Europe yet.

unfortunately, dominic couldn't turn on most of the games because it had been too cold in the unit over the last few days :'(
but i played tutankham two years ago at his place and thought it was quite cool.

I discovered Juno First at Fun Spot last summer and think it's a great game !

wasn't any fun at all with a partially-working stick. but as i've said, a lot of people love it, so there has to be some magic behind it!
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!
