Galaxian Theater / Re: STARBLADE from Namco !!! Road Trip inside...

Well that is just awesome, Guruguys. Both things actually, that someone can be that idioitic and still maintain a driver's license. And, that your Starblade is out on operating in 2014. That proves what quality game it really is.

If I had a beer in front of me right now I'd drink to you and your Starblade.

Please if you could put up a photo of it here. I'd love to see it.

A pacman costume would do nicely, it has enough soft damping in case of a fall or crashing in to wall.

Infact we  should all be wearing pacman-suits when riding motorbikes, skiing or playing hockey. The protective properties are supperior to any leather and plastic. But we can't very well have half a population of pacmans, can we.

Unless some people dressed as ghosts.

Awesome!

You do ofcourse realize the safety factor. A helmet, knee and elbow protection and some proper shoes are needed to make the experience 99% safe. Then there is always the 1% of disaster waiting around the corner depending on what tricks you attempt.

Personally I'd sit in my chair with the skateboard on my lap just spinning the wheels listening to the sound of the bearings.

What, there are annual meets at Bruno's? Then I must go!

Are there anybody from Sweden coming? Has there been anyone from Sweden?

I need to go there.

Galaxian Theater / Re: Quickplay-Starblade

Well played, Geo.

But the problem is that the various versions/conversions of the game are played in different ways. I always played my Starblade with the original laser-gun. You probly played your PSX version with a gamepad. There is a significant difference in performance depending on the controls you are using.

Galaxian Theater / Galaxian3 reboot on modern console gaming systme?
« on: October 08, 2013, 08:32:59 AM »
Aha, ofcourse. All the background LD-layer could be re-rendered, even improved, and run in real-time today on let's say PS3 hardware. The point is; are the templates/models and pre-rendered data still available? If not namco could ofcourse do a similar space adventure from scratch, but then it would not be Galaxian 3.

If namco would use the original LD-imaging for the Playstation3 it would be far less defined and not very suited for true HD. The original LD were low-res 15kHz, and the PS3 with a large LCD at 1080 lines would just make it all look ugly. But we can ofcourse hope that namco still has the coordinates and pre-rendered 3D data to re-create the 'background movie', either as mpeg or realtime.

Just a question. Does Galaxian3 use interlace? Like most namco systems at that time.

Ofcourse. But at the time the PSX was state of the art home gaming technology. Converting G3 to it was infact a downgrade. I wouldn't think namco want to do such a thing again on modern consoles. It simply would not look good. Not unless you use Bluray to store the background clips in HD. They would have to re-render everything all over again. I mean, it could be done, just that I feel that it would be too good to be true.

I think that Galaxian³ will not be implemented as a bonus game, or at all in any main program from namco due to its particular technical characteristic of being a Laser Disc based game. There are two different technologies running in sync on one (or in this case two) screens; the LD and CG layers.

The only way to emulate the Galaxian³ game on other hardware excluding a LD player, is to run the background sequence as mpeg/avi.

Bonus games, such as Starblade, Solvalou and Galaxian, are easy to implement because they are single code programs using realtime rendered visuals by a single hardware.

I have a special memory bank in my brain reserved for Starblade.

Is it just me, or... ?  I keep seeing bits and pieces of Starblade everywhere, under the pinball machine, along the walls, and kind of spread around. Is it the Starblade plague going on in Belgium or did a Geosword recently crash near Blankenberg?

I would like to come some time. Can I, please? Don't really know when yet, now would be too early as I've just started work. But perhaps some of your next meetings I could take a boat or fly down to Belgium. It's not much further than Denmark so I wouldn't feel too lost.

Are there any 'Bed & Breakfast' close to Bruno?
