Meetings, Exhibition, Events... / Eurocade 2017
« on: January 10, 2017, 07:43:50 AM »
So ... Let's think about the next one. After the huge fun we had last year we are theoretically ready to do this again BUT we have to wait with the final decision till we know what is happening in the main hall in which we had dinner. The landlord is planning huuuge changes and chances are good that we can't use the hall and the big elevator in September.

Anyway. In the meantime let's work out a Plan B. Who jumps in place if our museum is not an option???

'EUROCADE 2O16' / Eurocade Jukebox
« on: August 03, 2016, 07:29:07 PM »
It's a tradition the every Eurocade has its own piggy bank. Since nobody of our crew will be able to build as cool mini-cabs as Etienne did the last years, we came up with another idea: We will have a real (CD-)Jukebox with 98 CDs as our piggy bank this year and we need YOU to fill it up with the right 80s arcade soundtrack.

So every Eurocade visitor is welcome to name us one or two of his favorite CDs that fit the spirit of our event. We will do the rest ... get a hand on the record, fill it up in the juke and get it ready to be played during the party on saturday night at the OCM.

Just post your wishes here in the thread. No samplers (like "Best of Woodstock" etc..) please, best-of-albums of bands and soundtracks allowed though. So grab your jukebox-money and GOGOGO!!

'EUROCADE 2O16' / Eurocade 2016!

As you have may noticed Eurocade 2016 is happening.

EUROCADE 2016

10. September 2016 in Oldenburg (Oldg.) Germany

Yes, ladies and gentleman it is taking place in Germany this year! We have a wonderful museum of old homecomputers in our town (OCM) that is also the home of our little arcaderoom. "We" is a little group of arcade- and pinball-freaks that decided to have an own arcade (that even opens to public once a month) a few years ago. After hearing that the former Eurocade crew will take off a year we decided to jump in and organize a meeting ourselfs. So let's get your cabs ready, book your flights, hire your trucks and hit the road to meet us and have the best party of the year in Oldenburg!

I guess I don't have to explain to much about the spirit Eurocade but to those who haven't been there before here is the idea: Eurocade in the first place is an arcade collectors meeting. The special thing is that the collectors bring in the machines for the weekend ... we have a bunch of cabs already in our gameroom but it is highly recommended and welcome to toss in another 20 cabinets at least.

It's not mandatory to bring a cab though. Many have to take a plane to come and most cabs don't fit the hand baggage containers in the planes properly. ;) So please feel free to appoint to our little gathering even if cab transport is not possible.

Eurocade is a closed event. This means that you have to have an appointment to be part of the fun. Just drop me a pm and I will add your name to the list of cool people here in this thread. If you bring a machine please report that too ... if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!! There will be a little entry fee that includes the dinner at saturday night. It will be 20,- Euros. For those who are interested in the computer exhibition: it will be open from 14:00 till 18:00 on saturday for Eurocade visitors too!

PS: Never mind the pinballs ;) they are just there to fill up space ...

'Business' Area : Buy/Sell/Trade / FS: Cavemans garage sale
« on: September 02, 2014, 11:43:38 AM »
I am cleaning up a bit and plan to go a bit deeper into the pinball scene. So here are a few cabs from my collection for sale. Nice one, bad ones ... a one for everyone! Pics here: http://www.retrocustom.de/misc/Cabverkauf.zip

The cabs are all located in Oldenburg (near Bremen) in the north of germany. They are part of an exhibition in the Oldenburger Computer Museum  just contact me for details.

Ridge Racer 2 Twin (Namco) 400,- - one side with major graphic issues, the cab is very nice otherwise ... good sidearts. pretty seats, very loud game :)
Thunderblade Deluxe Sitdown (Sega) 400,- - this one goes cheap ... has a few minor points: monitor syncs after a few minutes (this is crying for a cap kit) and after the first level some textures have slight graphical issues. still very fun to play ;) big box with spare parts included. complete stick, seat and other useful stuff
Steel Gunner (Namco) 400,- - cool game, nice condition. this one is really fun! huge cab but on wheels and easy to move. very impressing ;)
Race Drivin' (Atari) 800,- - this one is rare!! just a 1000 produced! working good! monitor needs cap kit and is syncing just after a while. calibration must be done on every start because the battery is missing.
Amidar 300,- - TV as a monitor, otherwise good.
Hang On 300,- - fair condition. a few cigarette burns in the bezel though.
After Burner II 300,- - working good. big Sega-sticker on the top missing.
Continental Circus 3D 650,- - working flawless even with shutterglasses. never seen one otherwise ... incl. manuals.

The following cabs are project cabs ... all complete but non-working for one or another reason

Jumpers (Nova Clowns-Klon) 80,- this one goes for free to the first person who buys three in a row ;)
Wheels II (Midway) 150,- (bezel missing but almost working)
Operation Wolf (Namco) 200,- (almost working. monitor has too much red, gun not working, cab a bit wobblish)

Ok. Here the ultimate offer: the whole bunch of crap. 11 cabs!! plus all the spare parts and everything I piled up in many years of collecting: buttons, sticks, chassis working and non working ... for 3500 flat if the deal is settled this year. Yep. Thats crazy but the stuff has to go. I can store the stuff for a certain amount of time (maybe half a year, after that your money is gone :P) in a very nice warm and dry place but you have to pay in advance. group buys welcome. ;)

Thats it for the moment ... just write me an email to punkrockcaveman (at) retrocustom (dot) de for details. No PMs if possible since I am not looking to often here ...

Gone:
Daytona Twin (Sega) 800,- - nice one, works perfect! many spare parts i.e. another gameboard with slight issues (but working), another topper, a few other boards (sound, ...) and more, the gameboards are reviewed by Ken Westerfield and reballed in 2012.
Canyon Bomber (Atari) 300,- (very good cab condition, pcb not working, monitor does)

'EUROCADE 2O13' / The Cavemans Retro Experience
« on: September 17, 2013, 11:18:09 AM »
So ... a wonderful weekend has passed. Been there, seen it and all I got left are these lousy fotos ;)

First a few impressions of the beautiful gameroom. I need that lightning stuff for our hall. Cant be that expensive. One kidney or one side of the lung schould be sufficient to buy this. :)

Perfect lineup ... many classics and some newer racers, schooters and sitdown monsters.

Jesus ... better get a step. Does this guy see, what he's aiming at??

Mrs. Caveman proofing the concept of After Burner totally sucking in the upright version but kicking ass as a sitdown! Bad thing: now I need one of these.

This kid needs anger management. Killing people is no solution, buddy. Other kids can be monsters but just lay down that gun ... we will sort this out.

Quietness before the storm. Btw: the candy area rocked too!! I whish I could have a turn on one of those cabs but the line behind them was too long.

Here is where the magic happened.

The cinema ... where we saw one of the worst documentaries ever made. "The Video Craze". What did they think when they burned all hat money?? Here ist the story: Interview some collectors that say things like "It brings back all the good memories", "Can't live without my cabs anymore" or "It brings back all the good memories and I couldn't live without cabs anymore". Randomly throw in absolutely not funny and senseless clips of a pacman costumed guy and repeat the procedure for 90 minutes. WTF??

The cinema was breathtaking though.

Here come the visitors ...

Boom Box.

Some impressions of the beautiful building. The designers must have been high and having a blast, throwing all that colors around. ;)

Nice handheld collection! Bela told me that these devices can last two weeks straight in attract mode! Now thats something that smartphone designers can learn of.

The gang is checking the area.

Aaaaahhh. It's on.

There will some serious button smashing going on! Luigi and Cpt. Kirk brought this party monster all the way up to this years event.

It's getting hot in the gameroom.

Damn. Kate was so hot back in the days ... they better had tossed in a coin and pressed the start button before taking he pic though. Tip: Don't watch todays fotos of that chick. Ruins every wet dream you had in the past. ;)

Quick impression of the consoles area. That batman kid seems to have a decent strategy on that game. Must be one of the twin galaxies record holders.

Best place is at the bar ... as always.

Hammer those buttons.

Nice red tent ... love this table.

Next pic includes a funny story. The guy on the right is Steven Saunders. Don't know why but I totally mixed up that dudes name with Steve Sanders. Boy ... it sucked so hard as I saw that tattooed fellow instead of one of the founders of video game history. No more beers before lunch next time.

More cabs ... my wishlist getting longer.

The nice people of the museum in funny uniforms. Another WTF but a funny one this time. ;)

Beer. Everybody likes it.

Mrs. Caveman killing bad dudes. I love girls with guns.

The museum ... VERY nice exibition.

Mrs. Caveman approves Beld en Geluid.

Happy Pandy also does ...

The winners shot! Congrats Bela. I didn't compete because I have no use for an arcade stick ;)

As always it was a wonderfiul event. Nice people, cool cabs ... just refer to the other years threads for more compliments and stuff ;) I am always happy and kind of proud to be part of this!! Thanx guys for making this possible.

*fill in end credits with a big thank you to the crew and ALL names of all people I met here*

PS: Only things that sucked big time: Me completely missing the saturday night party because my "short nap before the action starts" took about ten hours AND no Missle Command. :)

'Business' Area : Buy/Sell/Trade / Qix Boardset
« on: August 04, 2013, 10:54:13 AM »
Hi there!

I just got a Taito cab with Qix ... actually without Qix because the boardset is missing. Maybe somebody here has one in spare and wants to sell it?

Arcade Lifestyle / Caveman goes public
« on: July 09, 2013, 09:32:07 AM »
As promised in another thread here is the story of my new crazy plans for the next few years ... as we all know space is always a limitating factor in this hobby. I think all of us want big gamerooms with dozends of machines and partys every weekend if we could AND had the space to do this.

That also is my problem. I have about 25 cabs and 4 pinball machines now and half of that stuff ist stored in the garage. No chance to even pull sometinh out to repair it. I'm done with my space. So last year (or was it already two years ago??) I decided to move out of the house with all my stuff. At the moment me and Mrs. Caveman live for rent in a quite small flat. Fortunately my neighbours are arcade friendly people so they let me do "The Cave" in the basement. In the meantime I occupied almost the whole basement for my machines ... there are almost 20 games running there on about 50qm!!!

To achieve my goal in a certain budget I asked the local computer museum (OCM) if they could imagine a coorporative between them and me. The liked it right from the start! So - fast forward two years - the moment has come that we found a location where arcade and classic computing come together on almost 1000qm!

The gameroom will be about 100qm for the start. As seen on pic 2 ... And thats not all: I teamed up with a few pinball freaks. They decided also to join the party and bring a few pins. Still looking for people who are interested in this to join the club. We will have a blast there, open one day a month to the public (like other clubs like the well known RetroGamers or ForAmusementOnly do). The goal is something like the permanent Eurocade. You bring your stuff, we build one big gameroom and have fun together. Take the community out of the web into real life. Arcade lifestyle at it's best. :)

So thats it! Bye bye Cave, welcome ..... (we don't have a name yet ;))

... so here ar my pics. As you can see, I suck big time in taking photos but I was to busy with chatting, playing and vaporising muertos highscore on the Hang On in exchange of destroying mine on my Ice Cold Beer.

Arcade Lifestyle / Decision help needed
« on: January 27, 2012, 01:02:07 AM »
Hi guys!

I need your help. I don't know what to do ... got my hands on a Nintendo Space Firebird upright! Now that's a very rare cab and I could get it swaped for a generic mame cab. Till now everything is perfect. Usually this is a no brainer. I'd go for it! But then came the pictures. See below ... the condition is pretty bad. Control panel is pretty f... up. Two buttons missing (swaped with stupid generic buttons), stick is an 8-way. PCB is Rock 'n Rope :( ... sidearts missing, marquee missing. This has to go through a major restauration. At least the monitor seems to be the original Sanyo. What to do? Go for it and save this rare classic, even if it might take years to get all the parts or leave it behind??? I'm thankful for any hint ... I'm pretty mixed up.

cheers, prc

Meetings, Exhibition, Events... / The Arcade League
« on: January 16, 2012, 01:36:51 PM »
Hi!

Maybe some of you guys already recognized that we founded an Arcade League in Germany ...The idea is to revive the spirit of yesterdays gaming. We all remember the days were homework was done fast to have time to go to the icecream aparlor (like it was in our town) or the arcade hall to meet the other kids and watch the older guys play. The competition was there! Who will be the next highscore holder and will me money be enough to do the attemps I need to master Level 3 ...

It was time to get that competition back!! First we tried the "online score, offline gaming" variant in one of our german forums. There was a game announced every week or two, you play it at home and submit your highscore to the forum. Not that exciting ...

NOW, after a lot of discussion, we founded the Arcade League. We MEET once a month or so to play against each other. We organized to get four (!) regional leagues running, with four to six members each. Every member has to have at least one cab. Emulation, generic machine or dedicated doesn't matter. On every gaming day, three games are played (the host decides which ones), every attendand gets three coins per game. The best men (or woman, because Mrs. Caveman is also attending! 8)) that are the champions of their own region compete in the national finals against each other. That will be at the end of this year or maybe the beginning of 2013.

So .. what do you think, you guys interested in doing some regional chapters all over europe?? Would be awsome to get some multinational event maybe in one or two years ... finals could be at the next Eurocade!  ;D

C'mon. Let's spread this all over the world!!
