The tool is called a FEIN Cutter, and you can get many diffrent cutter blades (for metal/wood/plastic/diamonds etc...)

cool dogs. I like the droopy eyes

and BTW, your sodacan-cooler is awesome. I got to me one too! Really nice to stash your Cola-cans in such a device, or whatever I should call it. :ghost: :ghost:

Not really. Just thought that with that Fein cutter you would get a naked dog so I did some googling :)

after taking a break from this project for 1 1/2 years (man, time flies!), i've decided revisit to this project!

my goal is to have it up and running by the end of the year (at the latest).

my dream is to have it up and running side by side with its sequel rainbow islands by the end of the year.

let's see what it's going to be: goal, dream or epic fail :arrow:

anyway, let's get this baby back on the road by pulling out my original bubble bobble pcb which i bought on ebay untested quite a while ago. here's the video board :arrow:

and here's the cpu pc board :arrow:

some details

the famous "bubble bobble chip" as a proof of authenticity

unfortunately, someone soldered the wires directly to the card edge instead of using a proper connector >:(

what a mess! :shock: :shock: :shock:

@our soldering experts: after unsoldering the wires, what is the best method of getting the card edge clean and usable again? which tools / materials do i need / have to use in order to get it nice and shiny again?

@muerto: your pics ain't working anymore - is that an easy fix?
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

since you dont have a desolder vaccuum iron;
Start by just removing the wire pieces with your solder iron, then use wick to remove as much leftover tin as possible
if nessesary, heat it up, then use a moisty cloth and wipe the remains off while its hot

but i think after good "wicking" you shoud get the connectors on..
i did it with the desolder iron on the CK that you brought to holland for me, and its a tight fit, but that increases the conductivety  8)

or you can try to use compressed air, first heat it, add fresh solder and "blow" away everything
(thats what i have done with connectors that are fully tinned...)
but i dont thing that method is sufficient for this job..

wach out that you dont make it too hot btw, the tracks can come loose...

thx etienne for the explanation, so i don't need to use special stuff like vinegar or whatever?

since you dont have a desolder vaccuum iron;

i'm currently looking into buying one, because it seems as if soldering is the way to go on many different occassions!
