Following this HUGE "UK tour" road trip done more than one year  arrow

It's time to examine the ZAXXON cab'  Smiley

There it is, inside a big mess  arrow

The side art on the right is in a good condition...

...but the right one has a part missing  Undecided  arrow

(I'm waiting a new A3 scanner by the way Roll Eyes Tongue)

It's an US import game. See the SN details  arrow

The games counter shows 11960 parts ... not a huge number, but I would say enough to pay the investment of the game ?! Roll Eyes Tongue  arrow

OK, so the game works and plays fine...

...but after 5 minutes on, the monitor goes down  Undecided  arrow

A capkit should fix such synch. problems, but this game deserves a new monitor isn't it ?  Kiss . In addition, have a look at the deep screen burn on the tube  Ghost

i would try to fix the monitor if the screen burn is from zaxxon, live with the screen burn til the monitor truly dies , you must preserve your stock of crts for the years to come.

Yes, and in addition, I'm a HUGE fan of 'original screen burn' on CRT  Kiss, but that monitor is sadly very damaged (sychro problem but also geometry problems, picture deformation and moving, colors...  Undecided )... That monitor seem to be already capkit'ed (not by me) in the past, you can see the recent 'blue capacitors' on the next picture.

No, this one definitively needs (& deserves) something more reliable  Wink

So I'm building a custom VIDEO adapter in order to display the game from the original board to a brand new TV monitor, using the usual SCART connector in order to display the RBB 60Hz signal blablabla... but ... argg... it doesn't work ?  Shocked WHat's wrong on my custom adapter ?

Stay calm, have a look at the board pin out and switches... Thanks to 'Pinouts' document available on the www.mikesarcade.com, I can read the solution  arrow

OK... one 'switch move' later, it works  Tongue Kiss Kiss Kiss  arrow

Ok, Let's remove the original monitor. By the way, that Zaxxon features the 'Fast Fire' add-on board, see the black arrow  arrow

See the original CRT... a true work of Art, I must admit it  Tongue Grin  arrow

I've to build a custom monitor support in wood :

Let's disassemble that *brand* new TV (I've a good stock of this model  Winkarrow

...ready to display that historical game for at least (and I hope) 20 years to come  Grin

On location  arrow

Let's play now  Smiley Kiss Kiss Kiss arrow

The picture is just... perfect... so precise, so bright... the black on screen is ... black... I love it  Kiss

I still have to clean the cabinet, the panel, and see what I can do with the damaged side art sticker  Roll Eyes Tongue

Looks Great!   Grin

Question:   Where did you learn to repair games & monitors?  Did you go to school or did you have a friend show you the ropes?

Well, I only have the basis of electronic, and a good understanding of video signal, so ... just enough to do all the 'tricks' you can see on the forum Wink
Sadly I'm not really able to diagnose or fix severe problems on boards by example  oppps ...but with the help of others people here and there, it's still possible to do something  Cool Thanks to Internet  Kiss Thanks to people helping people  Wink Kiss
In addition, I admit I spend a lot of time in order to try new solution, experiment new hardware / software mix (when I need to replace a defect board by an advance mame setup by example, or hacking an original Tron spinner by an other one,...)
But the most important thing : I LOVE THIS HOBBY, like many fellows/friends here  Kiss Grin Kiss Space Ace
