Well, I seriously doubt that they have a list of everything ever made so I think that they will charge the taxes over what has been paid for the cabs (plus shippingcost and insurance). Plus it seems a bit bogus to charge someone over for let's say a € 1000 cab just coz their list says so while in reality only € 100 has been paid for it. I remember once getting stopped at customs with a watch I got as a present and they looked the pricetag and charged me accordingly.
And Thomas, as always your optimism is very contagious  :D

Ladies and gentleman,

just to make sure: please keep me updated on stuff you are getting, wether from Lloyd or others. I need to stay on top of things especially regarding the number of cabs going into the container.

Thanks!  :pac:

Hey,

perhaps interesting for you guys. Before Thomas came up with this awesome idea I managed to ship my first cab myself. I`ve simply e-payed a Atari Space Duel. The shipping costs me about 350USD. After 3-4 weeks the ship will arrive in the next days and I was contacted by a german company who cares about the delivery and harbor handling. So I was charged about some harbor fees. This fees was

LCL-Charge, for getting the stuff out of the container.

GSC (General Surcharge Compensation) charge after terror events 2001 for security

D/O-Fee (Delivery Order Fee ) transfer fee.

and finally Anti-Terror-Compliance for automatic electric investigation of all adresses regarding the shipment.

all this fee made 150€ incl. VAT.

Then the custom fees come on top. I don't know the costs here exactly. I proposed to name the shipment "defect video game device".

Then I asked for container shipment. The very friendly girl from this company told me that this is a complete different story and is going to much more less.

I guess the 150€ for the harbor handling is quite cheap. For other companies I`ve heard about 250-270 for shipping a cab similar item.

Just to update everyone. The US Dachser branch forwarded my info request to the german one last night. I am sure I get some detailed feedback today or tomorrow.

Thanks  :pac:

Ladies and Gentleman,

I got feedback from Dachser who will forward our container. I just copy + paste it here. For me the case is closed ;)

Dachser:
> The rates you received from our NYC office should apply
> without any further costs. However it can happen that
additional
> costs accrue if for example the following happens:
>
> - customs wants to see the freight/paperwork (customs
inspection)
> - the carrier does not accept the empty container at their
inland
> depot and we have to return the container back to the port.
> - demurrage/detention charges if we cannot return the container
> within the demurrage/detention free time we get from the
carrier.
>
> etc etc.

Me:
Can you please go into more detail regarding the risks you
mentioned? Like how can it be prevented, how much will it cost if
it happens etc?

Dachser:
> Unfortunately there is nothing what you/we can do against it.
> If customs wants to see your freight than there is nothing you
> can do and charges would be as per outlay.
> Same with the return of the empty container. If the depot is full
> and the carrier is telling us that they will not accept any
> further container than there is nothing we can do except finding
> another inland depot or we have to return the container to the
> port.
>
> Please note that this happens pretty rarely.
