Is that yellowed marquee made out of plastic? If so, you could try your hands at "Retr0bright". It's a simple household chemicals mixture developed by a few retro-computer guys who have been looking for a way to reverse the yellowing of their old Commodores and Amigas. But you can use it for almost any kind of yellowed plastic, varying from old computers to toys (like Transformers) and LEGO bricks....

Explanation, recipe and how-to here: http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/

And this is an example of the result:

No arcade cab(s) yet, but happy owner of 2 Colecovisions, 2 Amigas and a pc running Mame.

If it would be for a commercial product I'd say they'd stained that one with coffee a bit extra....

It is impressive. But then again, Commodore's obviously weren't only sucky in quality on the inside, but also on the outside.

Ever seen how horribly yellow many ST's get?

@ChrisChris, yeah, with the "speed" of the 1541 floppy drive, you could have loads of fun like that in the mean time until your game was loaded....

@Laschek: Yeah but the ST was designed by the guys who did the C64..... ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't want to derail the thread so no more A8 vs. C64 war here.....

Buzzzz, wrong, the C64 and the Amiga are ENTIRELY different generation machines. Impossible to compare.

What _is_ interesting is that the A8 line was launched in 1979. The VIC-20 was released in 1980 and was vastly in-superior to the A8 series.

The C64 was launched in 1982. 3 years were something like eternity.....the developments were lighting fast in those days.

Just imagine, the A8 series was launched only a year after Space Invaders in the arcades.
The C64 was released when games like SW were being developed !!
Still, the A8 could easily compete with the C64.

The ONLY parts that were better on the C64 were the SID chip (although I personally do not like it's sound) and the number of sprites. It couldn't even produce over 16 colors (256 an the A8) and.....
O damn....now I _DID_ start derailing this thread :)

You're just jealous because the C64 was a LOT more succesfull  ;D

However, despite it's supposed superiority, Atari's too can get very yellowed:

The first thing i noticed that this is not the "original breadbox"....

Im sure you guys also payed close attention to that when seeing this picture   ;D

i did actually have this model, and liked it externally more than the breadbox BTW.
