Awesome..now for the buttons.. would any of them do,  I mean is there a standard or can I just use the generics?

Yes, on the Atari cabinet, the fire buttons are generics ...

...except the player 1/2 buttons who are the usually named 'Atari Cone Buttons'  ;)
...but you can use generic one if you want to replicate the US panel  8)

Cool I was thinking about this for the player buttons

And these for the fire buttons-Only in Red

Also, I'm looking at Happ for the buttons, anyone know of a better place?  I am getting the joystick from quarter arcade, but as best as I can tell they do not sell the push buttons.

it will work it will not be like the original machine in feel.
it is a micro switch joystick which will click when you move, the one pictured earlier is a leaf switch.
groovy game gear do a new leaf switch 4 way joystick, i think that could be the one for you. i wait for the purists/owners opinion on that

I could be mistaken, but the DL/SA joystick is actually a 8 way - a 4 way will work just fine, but you will not be able to perform the angle moves (not that it really matters in the game anyways) - you also require the leaf push buttons for the correct feel there as well. ;)

There is also a height difference, you want the one with the longer shaft.

oops i thought it was 4 way, groovy game gear do an 8 way leaf too, but it looks like this has been solved with the wico anyway

ok, go to the buy sell trade forum on BYOAC and look for divemasters thread there, find his contact details, he may even have a website too since i last looked, he can get you anything of Happ but for a better price and most importantly, cheap shipping. this is the reason we dont buy direct from happ, theyre service isnt too good and their shipping is horrendous from what i read. you have many options for buttons in the US to be honest, lots of them are listed on the BYOAC site in the link

Quarter arcade does sell the 'correct' buttons for the game: http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/4666

...and you will also need: http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/9466

The microswitch buttons are technically wrong for a Dragon's Lair/Space Ace.

Twisted Quarter is another place to buy parts from...
