I have just one question about the C3 theatre though - where are you going to put it eventually?

Hi Steve,

I'll start the construction of new game room (more an extension in fact), behind the existing one, and the name will be of course : Nuno V  ;)

So Stay Tuned   ;) (...but I can take some time  ...)

Nice... can't wait to see.
I came here to do two things, play some games and drink some beer.  Looks like I'm out of beer...

This is the 2nd anniversary of this *amazing* road trip today :P

Very good memories to me, my wife & Burt  ;)

Most of the parts are in my attic and and in an other room in my house
The others parts (the biggest parts) are located in my mother's house.

I'm still looking for an architect in order to create the room that'll become the V & I hope to make some progress on that this summer...

Back on this  ::)

Well, I already know there is a problem with a least one LD players.
The model originally used in the Theater is the Pioneer LD-V800.
Two years ago I got a *spare* one, not tested... but it's not enough for me  :ghost:
Impossible to find more LD-V800 players on the net for sale... but sometime I see LD-V8000 players available.
Almost no information about the difference between the LD-V800 & LD-V8000 except this website : http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/pioneer/pioneer_ldv-8000/pioneer_ld-v8000.htm

Pioneer LD-V8000 aka LD-V800 ?

Damn! Do they are identical ?

When no one can help you, the only solution is ...experiment by yourself 8)

On ebay US :

US 39.99$ each? Bargain!

There is a little problem... the LD players are located in Canada. Let's ask the seller if he can ship to Belgium  ::)

Hi Bruno,
Thanks for your interest in my listing. Unfortunately, shipping to Belgium would cost $327. Because of the very high rates for overseas, I do not offer these outside of Canada and the USA.
Best regards,
Michel

Mhhh!  :-\ ... OK, I'm forced to ask to Barry 'Sonic 1992' if he can help me on this  ::)
In no time, he replies me with a big YES  :-* :-* :-*

Green light so, let buy it now TWO players (one of the three available was already sold).
That first step costs me $225.98 (BIN + shipping to US)

Few weeks later, Barry got the LD players. Now the shipping cost from US to Belgium will be $148.95 ... per player  :ghost:
OK, I'm asking Barry to just send me one LD player this month, in order to not exceed my 'ArcadeLifeStlyle' monthly budget  :P

And here's what I got this friday  8)

See the personal picture added by Barry on the box ;D

By the way, did you see the word 'DOUANE' written on the adhesive tape  ::) ... it means 'customs'

Fortunately, I *only* have to pay an additional 10€ fee when arrival  :P

Ok, let's check the monster

Now, let compare this one with the original one I got with the Theater.

Down :Pioneer LD-V8000 player
Top    :Pioneer LD-V800 player

Except the name of the model, the front is exactly the same :

Now the back

Same connectors here, but a difference in the power consumption / voltage

Down :Pioneer LD-V8000 player - 120V, 100W
Top    :Pioneer LD-V800 player - 100V, 43W ?

Well, I didn't know a 100V voltage was possible somewhere? What If I plug this into a 110V socket? Nothing special I presume because I already do it in order to extract the LD (remember, that model is the one original one located in the Galaxian Theater when I got it). But how to explain that difference of consumption?

Anyway, let's continue to compare them...

Great! All the connections/signals I need are the same... the only difference here is the format of the connector for the 'Video Out' : Cinch / BNC  8)
So all I need will be this

Now, the last question... does this player is still working, has it survived the trip? ... remember

I don't have my Galaxian 'Dragoon' or 'Zolgear' LD close to me, so let's try an other NTSC LD, for example 'Space Ace'

Looks fine so far  :-*

Ok, let's hope the second laser disc player will be also working.... stay tuned  8)

cool - and very arcade-lifestylish! that's some serious bucks though for a LD player, but who cares: that galaxian theater must be up and running.
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

And another example of how the members here are helping eachother out

:spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace: for Sonic !

good to have a spare bruno, you'll never know when one dies.

The price is good, only the shipping is the killer

but thats cheaper than going to canada yourself and do a pickup...
would be a hell of a roadtrip though  ;D ;D ;D

The LD-V800 is more than likely the japanese model of the LD-V8000 (US model). Same thing happens for many other Pioneer laserdisc players:

Pioneer LD-7000 (japan) = Pioneer LD-700 (US)
Pioneer LD-V1001 (japan) = Pioneer LD-V1000 (US)

Usually the players are functionally equivalent, since both countries use the NTSC video standard. However there's a difference in the power input stage of the devices. Japanese mains voltage is 100 V 60 Hz, while US is 120 V 60 Hz. This means you can't power a japanese player with US voltage as there will be a damage in the short/long term to the power supply of the player. Viceversa supplying a US player with 100 V normally is not enough. It *may* work but with problems, depending on the power input stage tolerance. I've seen myself older players such as Pioneer PR-8210 not working at 100 V. Your G3 is probably has a power supply of 100 V for the laserdisc players.
Bye,

Matteo

Thanks for these informations Matteo, I'll pay attention to that. For me, no matter 100V, 110V or 120 V... I always used the common '220V to 110V' stepdown converters

Hey... it's the 4rd birthday of this 'Theater' story  ;) I'm confident... 2011 should be the year where the 'Theater' will enter the V3  8)

Damn! We are already in 2012... OK, got some delay in the new game room construction, but the work will start this year  :)

OK, finally got few days ago the second LD player won one year ago... here's the package, sent by Barry 'Sonic 1992' :-*

Ouch! Heavy stuff! Quite expensive shipping  :-\

Same question than the first LD player... has it survived the trip? Remember

Of course, such package/stuff was stuck in the customs... fortunately just 10€ as administrative fee  :-X

OK, let's open the box ...

...and time to test it. It is supposed to be working... let's try "The Attack Of the Zolgear" mission LD

Yes!!! Working  :-*

By accident, I push on the 'DISPLAY' button, and it displays the frame number. I presume it's the important value used by mame for LD games emulation? Or does it Daphne who handle that value?

A last checkup of the 'beast', before to store it...till the famous 'D' day, when I'll start to rebuild the 'Theater'  8)

...So far so good!  ;)

Once again, thank to Barry for helping me on this 'Saga'  :-*
