Keep the bottom clear of mushrooms, and don't die :D There's a couple of strategies (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Centipede/Walkthrough) in Centipede, but the only one I really use is the tunnel.

I never really start out planning to use "the tunnel", but it always seems to end up that way.  Personal best is around 300k+ which was made all the sweeter by doing it in the live environment of Play Expo last year.  Will try to post a pic when I get back home tomorrow.

Guys, how are your difficulty DIP set to? There's a big difference from "easy" (default) to "hard" (the two only options available)

I really can not comment on what my settings are at present but I have a feeling it is set to hard (due to the fact I get fast spiders @ 3k), but from memory I think Centipede has a strange quirk where the game at advanced levels is actually easier if it is set to "hard" on the dips.  The reason it gets easier at the higher difficulty is that the time for the segments that reach the bottom to reset to "slow" speed is less at the hard setting than easy.
