Just a quick hint...

If you have, like me, an old Commodore 1084S monitor -mostly used for your old Amiga computer-  sleeping somewhere in your house, it's time to take it back for testing our favorites pcb., or use it with advancemame and experience your game with the true display arcade feeling  8)

The good new about this monitor -> it's full RBG !

Exemple for VGA (under advancemame) to your 1084S monitor

You just have to do a cable like this :

For you VGA pinout :

use

PIN 1 : RED

PIN 2 : GREEN

PIN 3 : BLUE

PIN 13 + 14 : SYNCHRO

PIN 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 10 : GROUND

and wire to the correspondant signal on a DB9 (don't mind about the 8 pin DIN "C" on the picture below...) :

Now, just install AdvanceMame who is able to send a TRUE 15Khz video arcade signal, and enjoy the WONDERFULL picture quality your old Commodore monitor is still  able to do  :P  :P  :P

Like the real arcade monitor, you get a 'natural' scanline
 :o

Nice colors  :P

...arcade perfect :)

Of course, you can also use a true PCB to hook on your 1084S monitor, like I did for the Taito's Space Invaders part II :

... I'm now really happy to see  back my Commodore 1084S on my desk ... after so many years

great info nuno !!!!

the first time i realise that monitor like that could be use for arcade, it was one day when i ask a guy who has an astro fighter , and i ask him for the correct dip switches.
when i read his web page, he mention how he replace the 13" monitor with an old commodore monitor.....

great stuff to make test bench  8)

Arcadefever, I really love your testbench  :P  :P  :P  :

Question : on your small monitor, are you able to set the same parameters than a true arcade monitor ? I mean can you change geometry, synchro, size, colors, ... ?

Great work too, but ... why in the kitchen

I have that monitor also , I think it's the NEC one !
If so you can set frequency, size and position like the normal arcade monitor.
The tuning trimmer are on the jamma connector, if you want one I can ask to stekka if he has got one more.

the good thing about that mini monitor is the multi sync.
no need to teek here and there...
just one time and that it ...

i know a web site, who sell it for $25 each, but they need some modification to be able to work.

i bought mine on ebay already done and redy to use for $70

i will post all the link needed later....

Yes it's of course an option.

You can use an Arcade VGA graphic card with it by exemple  BUT you have to build a custom VGA to Commododre monitor cable, regarding the wiring I explain in this post in order to have this :

BUT...

If I remember, the Commodore monitor is a 13" and your cocktail is expecting a 14" ... not sure about the exact size, but I'm amost sure the commodore is ONE inch too short for the original cockail monitor bracket.

I suggest you to use a brand new TV like I did in that post8)

Hi Nuno

Yeah, I think I will just use 14" TV with scart, Now I noticed that VGA to scart is that all I need, or is there a need to use a VGA to CGA convertor????

Thanks agan

No need extra converter, VGA to SCART in RGB will work fine BUT you'll have to use AdvanceMame under DOS, or, more easy for setup : buy an Ultimarc's ArcadeVGA and you'll be able to use windows. I strongly suggest you that option if you never worked under dos and AdvanceMame config  ;)

Diggin in the dungeon of the lair, I just put my finger on this interesting topic, as I bought yesterday a 1084.
Thanks for the wiring opinion, as those found on the net seamed to be weird to me with their mini din pin out.
See You, Nuno.
I hope to make it work tonight

Yeps, these 1084 monitors are really great  :) I'm still using it to configure my different setups   ;)

Don't forget to drop few pictures of it when the wiring will be done  :P

sure mate, unfortunately, electronics shops in my neighborhood were closed yesterday & today wtf
so it wasn't tested as fast as i expected.
I just need a damned subd 9 connector...

By the way, i pick up my old A500 that was sleeping in my parent's house.
I couldn't make it work with the 1084 yet, because the cable i was using at that time
was an amiga to  scart for use on a regular european tv.
I didn't own any original commodore monitor in the past.
This lack is about to be fixed.
Afoo !

I'm too impatient to see if the picture is that good using pcb's on it...

It rocks too  ;) I've done some test with the Space Invaders Part 2 board

Great  :) There are a lot of people who need a copy of the Amiga LDG (who allow to play with real laser disc player DL or SA) disk. I've this disk but my Amiga is stuck in my Attic. Maybe you can copy it for me, of better, make an image and I'll make it available here for download ?
