Basically I need to know what did you use for Pin 8 (HSYNC) and 9 (VSYNC) (if used at all that is).

A correct solution is found here:

I know! But seriously, instead of soldering, can I simply CUT OFF a VGA and a 9pin CABLE and connect their cables that way? I mean are the individual wires insides these cables color coded and correspond with their pin numbers?

yes, you can bind the wires together without solder

Just take your DVM to Beep the wires and the connectors to be sure which wire is what pin

But seriously, soldering is not that dificult..

In fact, in netiquette this is considered shouting...most people don't like it when used improperly.....
If you think you will get better reponse this way you are wrong.

Ouch, I've done the cables more than 6 years ago! I still use them from time to time, especially the VGA to 1084s one! But don't ask me to double check the wiring provided at the time, that setup is not used by now (somewhere in a box, in my attic, behind a lot of Galaxian Theater stuff)  :P
But it's really easy to do...try... retry ...making mistakes...experiment ... is the key to found new solutions, like the use of the 1084s, and progress on this hobby  ;)

  It's a SUCCESS!

Thanks to DarthNuno and funkycochise, as well as Stedy and Desiv (from English Amiga board, http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=817474#post817474 and for helping me out!

I ended up using the schematics posted by funkycochise and Stedy , and asked the gentleman who was making the cable for me to follow that. It works!

Here are some screen-shots, but it has to be seen up close and personal, the difference between S-Video and RGB->VGA is day and night! The richness of the color, the natural "scanlines", and the overall glossy, shiny, and bright colorful sprites and images is beyond belief!

I am using PowerStrip to create resolution profiles for my 10804S-D1 (running at 320x240) and my modern DELL LCD at higher resolution, and maintain extended dual view setting.

 I would really appreciate if you have tips and additional optimization that you can think of!

Thanks million again!

Hello all,

Now, I obtained a 1080 monitor and I wanted to make a cable for this one as well. As you know, in contrast to 1084S-D1, the 1080 only accepts FEMALE 9 pin.

What is the correct pinout for 1080?

Thanks!

Happy that you finally succeed in making it work.
Additional tip would be to give "soft 15KHz" a try instead of the old powerstrip.

http://community.arcadeinfo.de/forumdisplay.php?142-Soft-15KHz-english

for th 1080, i'm sorry, I don't know.
Maybe you'll have to make some experiments and use a iron solder.  :spaceace:

Hi all,

I know this is pretty old thread, but I am in the same boat.  Got Commodore 1084S-D1 and want to play PC MAME on it.  I got zero soldering skills so definitely need somebody to make a cable for me (I will pay for it of course), or buy one of the cables you got laying around.

Anyone willing to sell their PC VGA -> Commodore 1084S RGB cable?

Those scanlines look awesome!
