Arcade Lifestyle / Nichibutsu MOON CRESTA RESTORATION
« on: February 23, 2008, 09:44:18 AM »
I’ve always wanted a Japanese style cocktail cab but they are usually over priced or the us style, which I don't like! Then one day I came upon this sorry looking picture of a Nichibutsu Moon Alien 2 cocktail on eBay the ad said "Mame shell table top game, no glass, good legs" I studied the picture which I don't have posted here and the cab condition was good but it had almost nothing in side, but what a challenge it would be, the fact that it was empty inside was a plus because I'm going to install a PC inside anyway......So I bought it, a couple of weeks later it got delivered....... Yeah!

So... What have we got........?

Well, first thing to be done is to give it a good clean, and hit the dust buster!!!!

Well, now that I cleaned out all the dust and dirt, I can Asses the situation, the legs are in pretty good condition, and I have the mounting brackets for a new monitor...Kool!
The game at the moment is Moon Alien 2 and the controls are in pretty bad condition, but I have replacement parts that are from a Nichibutsu Moon cresta cab, which will fit on this machine perfectly.

I have just started on this one because I’m also working on my Outrun machine too! But stay tuned I will send more updates soon.

Arcade Lifestyle / Sega Outrun the restoration
« on: January 19, 2008, 01:37:24 AM »

Hi All

I have recently acquired a Sega Outrun dlx upright......Now this cab has seen better days, it was sited for years at a beach side pier until quiet recently.

On closer inspection the damage to cab is clear, T molding has gone from one side, side art is tatty and worse still, there are cigarette burns on the plastic bezel and the control panel is cracked and lost its color.

Now! lets open the beast.

Well there is at least 20 years worth of dust, and a dead spider plus a beautiful web near the monitor.

It looks like the operator must have put a new psu in the cab and done some quick re-wiring to the PCB..... What a mess!

There are cables in here that don't connect to anything!!!

The force feedback motor does not work ) :
But the steering wheel , gear shifter and pedals all work..... Phew!

I decided to hit the dust buster ( a quaint little piece from the 1980's)

That’s better!!!

New problem......No Sound, the original owner said that a wire had probably came out......???

I find a cracked board inside.....I think it’s probably the PCB itself.

I'm making a decision to either repair the original parts of this game or strip it out and replace with a Pc running Mame!

Next step.... remove all the parts and strip the side art off and start the repairs to the cabinet.

I'll post some more soon

Arcade Lifestyle / Help on getting Cocktail Spare parts???
« on: January 02, 2008, 12:18:49 AM »
Hi Darth and everyone!

I just bought an empty Cocktail cabinet, Nichibutsu Moon Alien form ebay, it has just the legs and the cab no glass, no monitor, no pcb, now that’s fine because I’m doing a Mame conversion but first problem is that there are no monitor brackets, even if I get a replacement monitor I can't hold it in place, I was going to attach some pic's but I’m not sure how??

But I have looked around on the Internet and things don't look to good for parts, What’s your advice and where is a good place to start looking, also I need the top glass, but I'll probably get that made. If you can help.............I will send pics of the restoration, also I getting an Outrun machine next week, needs work but I can't wait.....................Checkpoint!!!

« on: January 01, 2008, 02:02:29 PM »
Hi Darth and everyone!

I thought i would mention it here because i want it to go to somebody that will keep it as a Dragon lair machine and not turn it into some horrible MAME conversion. Sorry if i have upset anybody. Keep up the good work

Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Help with TV installed in Dragon's lair cab
« on: October 08, 2007, 02:52:50 PM »
Hi Darth!

As you will see on the Facebook link, I also installed a TV to replace the monitor that was once there. There are two ground cables that come from any TV that a re around the screen. In the original casing they are connected to the plastic case of the original TV, but now that it is in the dragon's lair cab where is the best place for those cable, I have attacthed them to the side of the steel case that holds TV, but i get a blue spark when I turn on and off my machine, if you have any info I would be greatfull.

Thanks again

Hi!

I'm new on this board but I have checking site for a long-time. Darth! You have influenced me to repair my Dragon's lair machine, mine is an euro one with the Atari sticker on it, hope this is not cheeky but here's the link http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=573161802 hope that link works? It took me six months getting all the bits together but she running great now. To everyone feel free to post you’re comments. One technical question when I replaced the Wells gardener for a TV I get a discharge spark from the TV's original grounding wires, I hooked them to one of the corners of the mounting brackets, can you suggest a better place to reduce the spark!

Thanks again for this site!
