Outrun <--> Mame (How To ??)
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:25:58 AM »
Hi guys,

I am pretty new to the whole arcade scene/Lifestyle and until now only worked with original Hardware/PCBs.

As some of you may know I have a Outrun Upright with the original PCB. I am a big Outrun Fan and would love to have a "The Outrunners Twin Sit Down Cab" but I think there wont be enough space in my gameroom for such a massiv cab... but I tought of running it (and maybe some others like "turbo outrun" and maybe even Outrun 2 SP) in the Outrun Uprigh cab.

But as I said I don't know much about how to do this with mame! I know I need a PC for it, thats no problem but I dont know how to connect it with the outrun cab, what software i need exactly? Dos?? Windows?? does it run with linux? (I'm a linux sysop) what mame version? and so on...

I dont think the outrun is a JAMMA cab so I would also need to do some kind of adapter so i can still use the PCB by just unplugging the PC and replug it??  What do you think?

Could you guys help me? Would be great!

Thanks a lot

logan / Thomas

I presume you want something like this  ::) ;) as showed in this video::) 8)

In order to hack analog controls (wheels + pedals), you'll need an A-PAC (see on Ultimarc website).
If you're using an A-Pac, then you'll need to run Windows (because of the A-Pac drivers)  ;)
Of course, you'll need a computer... with mame on it (Mame32 for example, or mame + a front-end)  8)

Thank you very much Darth! I totally forgot you did this...
Outrun 2 really looks great on the cab's screen! As soon as I'm done with the room I think I will start my first cab project!

Thanks again!  ;D

Hi bruno, how do you manage the force feedback control?

Mav

I'd like to remove from get a 2nd sit down dlx cab and place inside a Pc or a Ps3 to play grid (awesome) or need for speed..

hi bruno,

i've been reading the ultimarc website on the a-pac...
can you be so kind as to explain to me how you go about figuring out what value "pot" is needed??

"First, select the correct capacitor for the value of the pot you will be using as shown below."

i'm hoping to get a crazy taxi and convert that for some solo outrun action.

thanks.

Hi vib_ribbon,

The first thing to now is the value of the Pot inside your game.

Check on your game, and see the value of the pot(s), usually written on its back

I've only worked on two sega games : Turbo Outrun and Daytona USA. Both use 5K as pot value for the driving wheel + pedals.
And probably many others SEGA racing games uses similar pot (5K)

On the Ultimarc Website you can read this :

Pot     Value     Capacitor     Markings
5K    150nF    .15         Supplied with board
100K    10nF    10n         Supplied with board
50K    15nF               On request
10K    68nF    68n        On request

Because the common pot are 5K and 100K, Ultimarc provides Capacitors for these values when you order an A-Pac.

Be sure to order extra capacitor, as many as you have pot of course  ;)

Hope it can help  :-*

ah... that's most useful. it's good to know that the specs will be on a part of the actual cab itself, and thanks for the tip that i'll be needing 1 capacitor per pot (since the pedals will use the same pots too). i'm a little more confident that it'll all work out eventually.

still not sold my cab yet to fund for the racing cab though. it's going to be a slow burner.

thanks again.
