More stuff from China: LEDs !!

5m. of warm white LEDs,
12V switching power supply,
electronic dimmer

Each of those components cost me about $7 !!

Initially bought this for some light above my Turntable.....but I will have over 4,5meters extra to do fun things with.....

Could try it how it looks in a marquee area, power it thought the 12V.....

The dimmer has one less welcome effect: the color of the light gets "less warm" at lower levels.....weird.

Love ebay, China, free shipping....

I used these strips for a marquee, all good! Do you have links for the PSU and dimmer?

Wahaa LOL !

I've "installed" the LED strips (= peeling off the cover and sticking it to the underside of the top board of my stereo/TV cabinet). I did some testing and it works great.
However the dimmer is going to be not used for this......if I mount it to the best position (out of view, easy to reach) it actually produces some (although I really have to turn op the receiver) interference when I select the phono (the cartridge probably picks it up), which is logical because a dimming device for LEDs sends pulses to the LEDs instead of lowering the voltage and the device is unshielded.

However, not a big thing, I prefer the LEDs at full power, the light is at it's warmest then.

Now, I suspected that maybe the 12V power supply produced some interference too AND I have exactly 0 power outlets anymore so I thought....wouldn't it be great if I could omit it completely......and then I remembered the Onkyo to have some sort of power output at 12V....so I checked the manual and YES....

The Onkyo has a "Zone 2" option which means you can hook up a set of speakers and install those in another room and listen to a completely different source then is being listened to in the "main" room (or if there is nothing at all there).
The 12V connection is meant to "trigger" any external hardware used for Zone 2, so if you switch on Zone 2, there is 12V, if you switch it of, it's 0V :)

Since I don't use Zone 2 anyway, and since I use only a handful of LEDs (which draw very little current) I can use this for the LEDs :)

Doing so I can even turn the LEDs on and off using the Onkyo's remote  ;D ;D ;D

All I need is a 3,5 mm jack plug and some wire :)

Wow, that's a great option.  Can you run zone 1 & 2 at the same time?
