ok guys, here's something i had wanted for a looong time. i had checked ebay regularly until i finally scored :). what is it? let's find out!

the postman dropped off a huge package at my doorstep. the label says "be careful - glass!!!". hopefully nothing's broken inside :-\

my cat gnocchi has already spotted the box ...

... and is anxious to find out what's inside - so he helps me unpack it! ;D

what IS inside? open sesame!

it's an original 80s ghettoblaster aka boombox in great condition - 27 years old and still going strong. i hadn't been on the lookput for exactly that model, but i wanted something big, something cool-looking and something with LED effects when the music is playing.

i wanted it - i got it! 8)

let me show you this beauty a little bit closer - in more detail!

looks almost like the famous atari logo

of course, i couldn't resist, i had to put on some pseudo 80s-style to take a picture in full action - note the 3d back-to-the-future hommage and my golden super-u-chain which charlotte gave me as a present once!

after walking through the streets of lauda for a couple of hours (and attracting a lot of attention), i found THE perfect spot for my ghettoblaster on top of the gauntlet cabinet - fits like a glove!

i'll film a short video of this blast from the past to show it in action over the course of the next few days. for now, i couldn't be happier, but wait what i've got in store for you next ... ;)
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

i don't have an ipod, an mp3-player or something similar - and i never will. those modern devices totally ruin the way you listen to music. too many choices, information overload! i can't stand that stuff

the sound is really really good - and loud. there's a lot of space in there (because of the sheer size) and of course you mustn't forget the SUPER WOOFERS ;)

To a certain extend I agree with you Ully, but there is no problem in playing an entire album of a certain artist with it. It only requires some self discipline. ;D But indeed, there is often the "urge" to skip a song or to keep it on shuffle...that is also something about listening to vinyl I like, you put on an album and listen to it from beginning to end, even the songs you don't like instantly. Often those songs grow on you and sometimes you even like them better in the long run.....that indeed is a lost "art" for young people nowadays....although not for all of them....

I use my iPod mainly to have my music collection in my car. It's great on long trips to, f.i., Lauda.   ;D

I just found a box full of ANCIENT cassette tapes on my attic, good stuff for your Boombox as I'm sure that there is loads of music from that very period the boombox is from on there ;)

I wonder how these things really still sound after all those years....
