[Roadtrip] Donkey Kong Cocktail Table
« on: September 24, 2009, 04:59:19 PM »
As many of you know , i won the auction from this post.
I said i was out at 50€, but i couldn't resist to gamble once again, and then i won it  :P

Okay , a nice Sunny Tuesday in september i agreed with the seller to pick it up.
First some preparations before i leave for my journey...

Width and height shouldn't be any problem  8)

As many of the “roadtrippers” here, i also need to take the Official “statistics picture”  ;D

TomTom ready..  (sorry for the blurry picture, my other cam is good in macro, but this one apparently not  )

And because of that is here a detail picture, and the details:
Distance one way: 302 Km’s
estimated time: 3 hours

“Don’t worry Pauline & Table, i’m comming!!”

Okay, many people here like also non arcade related pictures, so i will throw a couple in here and there…
This is the “Traffic Learning Camp” close to my place..

Some abstract road deviders at the city of “Eindhoven”..
They look like preforated pipes..

As many people know, there are parts in germany where the highways dont have speedlimit
I hope i will not return to the netherlands like the car in front of me…  :o

Last stop for the german border..
To keep the spirit going im going to put in some oneliners and you may guess from where it comes
(its almost like the "Great SuperUlly Quiz")  ;)
Time to “fill her up at number seven”

Ahh , the german border, time to switch the Music to some “German Rock”

RAMMSTEIN RULEZ!!!

Passing the River rhine..

I like the bridge…

Then suddenly, my radio changes to “multimedia” and i listen “Magical Sound shower” ..
Hey, that’s not from Donkey Kong !!  :D

My right foot reacts to the music i guess  ;D ;D ;D
SPEEEEEEEEDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!

After some “low flying” there’s a few kilometers of roadconstruction….  :(

What’s that ??  I must be comming close according to the building above…

Yes, here is my exit “Gütersloh”…

Or “Ausfahrt” as the germans call it

I really must be close now….
I see Donkey Kong everywhere !  ;D

Yep, only 2,1 Km’s more and i am at the sellers location..

At the sellers Garage,
There it is !  :P
Hmm… those securitybars absolutely  need to go !

Loading complete, fits exactly!

Some art in front of this building..

Leaving “Gütersloh” again, up to the highway and back to the Netherlands..

Did i already mention that i love the german Autobahn ??  8)

Let me check if after these speeds the lute is still in place…

Aaagggghhhhhh, not you again Donkey kong !!

Time to finish the german part, so i finnished my “german drink”  8)

Entering the Netherlands, immediately Roadconstructions..
I miss the german Autobahn already!

Whats that….   Do i see traffic jam ???

Yes, i spotted it correctly, major traffic jam….
This sets me back 45 minutes……  :(

At this time of the year the Netherlands grow a lot of Corn…

And here  i spotted a very old “Opel Kadett”..

Breda !, thats my exit !
Hmmmm  finaly home
Thanks god a buddy of me called me during the way , and he had some time to unload the beast!

The unloading can begin at my mother’s house..
Big thanks Rodge!
I owe you one (or two)  ;)

Machine in place and Rodge starts to inspect immediately…
(part two for the oneliners quiz..)

“Step aside Butch…”

Looks like this machine made almost 26000 DM !  :o

After some quick inspections …  the hinch is broken an need some repairs.. (or replacement)

The top has a lot of chips…
Maybe it will need some T-Molding…

The control Panel….

Power supply area

The board set, i can see it says “Nintendo 1981” , so i think the board is original…
Will remove and clean it later, it has issues….

The monitor is working, when i fire it up , i listen a sound followed by this image…
A noise is comming from the speaker , and when i flip the coinswitch the counter goes one number up.. no sound of the coin insert..

We decided to switch it off and on again..
Since the monitor was already “warmed up” we could see some sort of ramtest followed by the previous image..
Ok enough for now, i will look later to find time to start working on it
Anyone some idea what could be the cause of this  ???

Anyway , the Official statistic picture…

It tells us:
Date: 22-09-2009
7 hours 45 minutes spend
624 Km’s on the road
Average outside temperature 19,5 degrees Celcius
One tank of gas (wich my company pays..)

This Roadtrip is officially over!

Thanks guys!

@ully, i need to be honest about the fake question..  i really don't know, i found this pic in the internet, i did not do the photoshopping myself...
My mother asked me if i was feeling ok to bring this old thing in her house...
it will stay there on her attic, since i moved out of my parents house, this room is almost empty (that was my old bedroom) and i will have two advantages:
1. space enough for the work
2. a happy wife  ;D

it will be alot of work, but thats the fun part of it too right ?

@Bruno, thanks for the headline! , and thanks for adopting me in the "roadtripper" family  ;D

Congrats !!!!

The power supply is certainly different from the original Nintendo but the board-set definitely is original.

If you ever plan on removing the white ball top......my Galaxian is in desperate need for replacing ;)

For the trouble shooting: start with the basics. Measure the supply voltages on the PCB set.

If you have a black or "DK brown" ball for me , the white is yours, one side has a "DK Brown" ball, and i like that more, so i was already planning to change the white ball, for "DK Brown" or both Black

The PCB measurements i will do when i start on the project, first i will totally dissasemble it in order to clean / paint / restaurate it
also i wil try to reseat all the connectors after the cleaning of the board (and also reseat all the IC's) to see if that makes any difference

nice to see its a original board, and since there is some image on the screen, its definetly fixable    :P
