Restoration (Centipede cabaret)
« on: January 15, 2017, 10:24:13 AM »
People were requesting more posts in the forum so here's a contribution from me. If ppl find it interesting I will gladly keep the thread updated  :D

My friend Pinge found a poker cabinet that looked like an original Atari cabaret cabinet. He bought it & found out that it was an old Centipede, which they had totally destroyed by painting everything black, made holes in both the CP, side & top. Centipede pcb was gone as well as the original monitor

When everything was looked at, unfortunately the only thing that could be saved was the cabinet itself & the speaker, as well as the monitor. Since Pinge already has a million projects he sold it to me  :o

Said & done, my goal is to turn this cabinet back to its old glory. I've never done any restoration work before this so it will probably be a good lesson

I started with the Control Panel. The CPO was unsaveable because of the black paint & the holes for the poker button. But I wanted to save the CP itself.
So I started removing the CPO & the paint, to make it metal clean. I used citristrip gel to get rid of the paint & CPO

Then I spot welded a metal plate on the underside.

After that I used chemical metal to cover the newly made hole & made some grind job

Drilled where the old holes were & now all that's left to do is paint it black & get a new CPO

Holy shit  Lots of (unnecessary) holes.

I wonder how much you can feel them once the cpo is applied.

Keep the report going :)

Yep, they really butchered this one, no finesse whatsoever.

As with most restoration project this will probably be more expensive in the end than buying a new. But well, it's a good learning lesson & I'm not in a hurry.

Please tell me more muddy. The original CPO is light blue, but every single repro CPO I've found is dark blue  :-\

Yeah there's 2 versions, the US one is very dark and has a slightly different layout.

Mine is vectored from an Irish panel. Part no# 037520-01 REV-5 V-SC1800
