Breakout Consolettes?
« on: November 04, 2016, 12:27:08 AM »
Hi!
I recently acquired a Breakout consolette style cabinet and I would like to know more about it. The monitor chassis and neck pcb says "Atari Europe" and the serial sticker on the back of the cabinet says Atari Theatre. Mine does not say "Consolette" like the ones I have seen pictured here on the forums. Were these common throughout Europe? Where were they built? France?

EDIT: I guess this one looks more like mine: http://www.flyerfever.com/post/98616925348/breakout

Yes, hard to see but mine's a little bit different. Mine does not say Consolette on the front for instance.

The monitor of my cabinet is not working. A fuse and a couple of resistors are badly burnt. Still, it seems as if the cabinet has never been put out to operate on location. Except for the burnt parts, everything is shining as new and the coin counter is on 00089(!). Also, the serial number of the cabinet is 62.

I found the below post where someone repaired a consolette-monitor, but my french is too rusty to figure out the details. Will see what google translate has to say about it when I have time to sit down with my cabinet. http://forum.system-cfg.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5594

I bought this from an old operator so it's unlikely that it is the same machine as the one from ebay.

Some components on the chassis looked like they were missing, and some resistors were badly burnt making it difficult to identify them. But spectroman here on the forums was kind enough to provide me with some schematics for the chassis so I have now been able to replace those. Also, I recapped one of the chassis-pcbs (there are two) and now she fires up! At least one of the pulled caps was shorted.

The picture still needs adjustment, but I will wait with that until I have recapped the other board. So, thanks a lot spectroman!

I don't fully understand what the previous owner attempted. There were some badly burnt resistors and close to them a transistor that was only soldered on one leg. The other two legs were loose. Not like a cold solder joint just entirely unsoldered. A human fault. Either someone started a repair but never finished or someone completely forgot to solder those legs back and turned it on, ultimately firing those resistors and the fuse.

The only marking on the chassis is "Atari Europe". I also saw the text "synoptique moniteur 3175 00" on one of the schematics I believe. I'm not sure if synoptique is a brand.

synoptique mean a functional schematic in french.

The 13" moniteur is  an "hacked version" of the 19"

The flyback is powered by a 12V (instead of 24V on the 19"), but the chassis only produce 24V.  So they add a zener, a balast transistor and a Resistor soldered on the wire (not on pcb) to produce 12V.
