The demoscene on the Commodore 64 is still alive. More so than on most other platforms.  Smiley
Raffox came 4th in the mixed graphics competition at the Flashback 2013 party with this rendition of Dirk:

Yes, that's a cool one.

I didn't have a C64 at the time. I was in an other 'team'  Roll Eyes ... I owned an AMSTRAD (Schneider) CPC 464, and I was very pleased with the port of the game on that machine.
Note there was already a technical trick on the presentation screen  arrow

 arrow All that 'presentation' screen is in 'mode 0' (160x200/16 colors), except the scrolling text part which was in 'mode 1' (320x200/4 colors). Mixing modes wasn't possible without special assembler tricks!  Cool
