:: Netherlands Roadtrip - SPACE WARS + PLEIADS ::
« on: August 29, 2008, 10:49:51 PM »

...It's been a while since my last roadtrip, isn't it

For some reason, I have to do this roadtrip alone  :-\ ... so let's choose something powerful I can listen at very high volume. No one will complain  :D

... because it's so early : 5:27am  :ghost:

Oh eh... yes ... the date : 19th of July... an 'old' roadtrip as you can see  :P

Jesus... I don't like to drive in the black... but I've no choice

So, I've to drive to Netherlands for this roadtrip. It's the second time for me (the first NL roadtrip was for this Defender two years ago).

...In order to size this new roadtrip

Let's go...

Still in Belgium... and if you know this country and Belgian specialties, you should be able to recognize this  ;D

Funny... I've to drive in ... Germany  ... before entering in Netherlands. I love roadtrips... visiting countries blablablba ....  8)

(It's the Belgium/Germany border... believe me)

Germany... green energy... but maybe too much wind for this big crane

I love traveling ... and discover new specialties like this :

BiFi Roll *Special Germany Edition*

This is it now... Welcome in Netherlands  8)

At the seller's place... the best moment... maybe some good surprise ? Let's follow him...

A Galaxy Ranger ...

...non working, but it looks very clean.

Here's for what I'm here...

Lady & Gentlemen, please welcome...

SPACE WARS !!!

Wiki will explain better than me  :P

Space Wars was the first vector graphics arcade game. It is based on Spacewar!, a PDP-1 program that might arguably be the earliest computer game... (more wiki)

...and as a *great* bonus game...

PLEIADS  :-* :-* :-*

I didn't play Space Wars back in the day, but I played Pleiads like a crazy  :-* :-* :-* I really love this game  :-* :-* :-* I didn't know a dedicated cab exists... the origin of this one is Spanish... I'll investigate very soon of course  :P

Regarding the Space Wars... no monitor... no boards  :-\ ...but the cab in a good condition regarding its age  :P

It's a very big cab ... fortunately, the trailer is big enough for it :

(did you see the Tapper cab in the background ? Not for sale  :'( )

Let's protect it against the usual rain  :ghost:

The Pleiads will go into the Nuno's car  ;D

The seller is also a collector... check this out  :-* :-* :-*

(not for sale of course  ;D)

Time to go back in Belgium...

One of the good things in Germany : They have Burger King (no Burger King in Belgium  :'()

Back at home... there's no place like home  :P

Ok, now the statistics ...

878 km on road / 11h17 min ... this is what a call a small roadtrip  8)

Of course... I've no more empty space in my current game room but ...

I'll examine both games when I'll more space for working on them  8)

That Galaxy Ranger has also found a home in Belgium, mine :)

It's not working yet. I'm busy fixing the monitor and waiting for the disc to arrive from the US but I've cleaned it up:

Hi liquidx,

Happy to see the Galaxy Ranger has a new home ... in Belgium too  :-*

If fact the seller didn't know if it was working or not... but it looks complete at first sight.
So the laser disc was missing ? I guess I still have a Galaxy Ranger laser disc in my 'arcade items spare room'  ;) Send me a message if you're interested about it  8)
Don't hesitate to create a new post about the restoration of your game... there are a lot of LD games fans here

Belgium power  :-* :-* :-*

PCBs are all there but it was missing the centronics type cable between the PCB and the LD player, I've got the parts to build one now, just need to get the pinouts right. It was also missing the shelf that holds the player in place.

Shame about the disk, I have one coming from the states, If I'd know there was a local one... If it never shows up I'll get back to you.

As soon as I start back on the restoration I'll post a new thread here.

This is not a burglary  ;) These two games were originally located in an Arcade Museum... in Belgium  ;D

The seller buy these games when the museum closed... And now, I'm just bring back these games that belong to the Belgium heritage  :P 8)

I've just found the flyer of the TAITO version of Space Wars, have a look

As you can see, Taito didn't bother about the Star Wars license  ::) ;D

Impossible to miss the X-Wing and the TIE-Fighter  :o ;D

Impossible nowadays...
