Can ya spare a 33"er?
« on: April 16, 2008, 10:55:46 AM »
I just scored an old and gutted "Gauntlet Legends" cab on Ebay for $31.00!

The control panel still had four 49-way joysticks that sell used for $30.00 each.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110238009367&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001

The cab takes a 33" monitor like this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320238816452&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011

This guy wants $600.00 + $300.00 shipping.  Ouch!

Are there any cheaper alternatives?

I am going to Mame this cab.

Thanks

Hi Emogee and welcome to this small, but great, community.
You have a lot of options when it comes to monitors.
Check with Rick Nieman of Niemandisplays. He is building a batch of 32" monitors he will sell for around $300 brand new!
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79110.0

This is his company's website:
http://niemandisplays.com/
I have heard nothing but great things about him and his company. They may have a local dealer to you so you can pick it up yourself and save on shipping.

Also, check a company called Betson and see what they have too:
http://www.betson.com/
They have a distribution office in Philly so you can save a ton of money by picking it up yourself!

Good luck!
Alex

Hi Emogee,

Woow... Impressive...You got the *Deluxe* version of the game  :o :) And for an *amazing* price  :P

Because you'll use this cab as a mamecab, you have two choices :

- If you want to have the true RGB arcade display, you must use a real arcade monitor. Because you're in USA, and so your TV don't have the *famous* 'SCART' connector on the back... That SCART connector allows us -poor European-  guys use our TV like a true Arcade monitor in RGB.

Amadama gives us great links for monitors ( thanks  :-* )

- If you don't care about the true RGB experience, just buy a second hand 33" TV and use the S-Video connector or the composite connector (the worst solution).

Good luck on your project  :)

Like Bruno said you can go the TV route too. You can get a used 32" tv for next to nothing nowadays (craigslist is a great place to check). Since this is a pedestal type cab the TV would be easy to put in too. Get a TV with component inputs and you get a very good display quality.
Good luck!

Hi, unfortunately the tube and yoke combination to match any resolution higher than standard res (15khz) has been out of production for years.

I don't think you will find it anywhere unless it is old or used.

Sorry.

Subject: Fwd: Do you have a 33" monitor?

Greetings!

I live in York, PA.  I am shopping for a 33" monitor that will fit a "Gauntlet Legends" cabinet.

It came with a Wells Gardner D9200 or D9400.

I would like to have either a VGA or DVI connector because I am putting a computer into the cabinet for Mame.  Thank you!

That's too bad. Will the 32" not fit in it?

Sure! A 13" will fit too, but the idea is to maximize this cab potential.

My current cab is based on a Xenophobe machine.  I was able to shoehorn in a 19" VGA where a 20" Arcade monitor was.  It works ok, but vertical games like PACMAN are only as big as if  they were on a 13" monitor.

I figure a 33" will allow the clasic vert games appear closer to the actual size.

I also wanted a larger control panel for 4 players.  My kids love playing the Dungeons & Dragon games.

In America, we have a saying:

Go BIG, or go home!

I could not find a reasonable priced 33", so....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250237561929

I found a Gateway 36" for $107.00+shipping!

I may have to alter the cabinet!

Nice... and the good thing is : you'll have a VGA connector, so you'll have a nice picture quality, far better than the poor composite TV signal  :P

Just an update.

He is shipping my monitor 300 miles from Rochester NY, USA  to York, PA for $132.00.

I was thinking of doing a NUNO inspired trip, but $132.00 is less than gas, beef jerky, and Mountain Dew soda.

It should be here in a week.

I can wait!

Well, after buying my monitor on April 21st, he promised to ship it May 3rd.  I just got a tracking number May 29th.

I can't wait for him to request that I give him "Positive Feedback"!

As the saga continues....

I did get my refund, and he suggested that we skip the feedback stuff.   ???  Could he be mad at me??

I found this on Ebay...

Gateway Destination Monitor and Computer

This is a Gateway 32 inch Monitor and System.
The system is 350Mhz Pentium II with the original Gateway TV Card in it.    Wow!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200228697502&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=010

My Gauntlet cab takes a 33" Wells monitor, so this will be a good fit.

The computer will probably be sold to the local used computer store.

BUT!.....

I have to drive down to get it!!!

Start: York, PA 17401
End: Severn, MD

Total Estimated Time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Total Estimated Distance: 68.68 miles

Each way.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/17401/severn+md/

I know, I know,  Take lots of pictures!
