Zaccaria Quasar - Need of parts
« on: February 08, 2012, 01:14:31 AM »
Good evening,

I have wanted a Zaccaria cabinet for awhile, and I might have the opportunity to pick one up - a Quasar.

I dropped Andre an email, and he was nice enough to email me back.  He suggested a couple of guys here are the experts on Zaccs (Bela, PaulSwan, Etienne), and might be able to point me in the right direction.

The cabinet was converted (hideous) into a Ms. Pac-man.  Almost as bad as that Pac-man Computer Space ;)

It needs a marquee and control panel.  It also needs a boardset, but I am most concerned with the possibility of finding a cpanel at this point.

If any of you folks have time, please point me in the right direction.

Post some pics of what state it's in.
I may have some parts - I won't know for sure until mid-April so you might like to ping me the first week of April. The wiring loom is very hard to construct for this game but it's not impossible.
Regards,
Paul.

Can someone describe the cpanel to me?  Wood? Aluminum? Artwork aluminum on a metal base?

Zacc's use plexi with the art backprinted.
that goes on top of a wooden CP.
I believe Nintendo's use the same technique

here some some pics of my old CK Control panel:

and i have done some succesfull plexi repro's :
https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2958.0

and some succesfull backmounted graphic repro's :
https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2271.msg41228#msg41228

here is page 7 of the plexi thread which shows the result of a complete CP:

The cpo was scanned and it is in the best hands by now. ;)

and yes, it is in the vector que  ;)

Hope this helps  8)

By the way, there are at least 3 holes missing from that cp, maybe there is some kind of a cover on the original one, it worth a check. ;)

It appears there is another positive to the game being fairly local....the owner found the plexi overlay!

@Etienne - Just got through the week and got to browse your threads.  Amazingly thorough and detailed work.  It takes a lot of effort doesn't it?  Found the same thing when I did the Pengo CPO.

Excellent job.

@Belike - To answer your old note - The extra holes were filled in with bondo :(

I've been asking some questions and Bela was gracious enough to help me ask something I wouldn't have known otherwise.

There is a difference between the US Billiards and Zaccaria version of the boardset?  Some sort of color inverter?

This is a photo of the two boards?  I need the board on the right, what part of the board shown is the inverter?

The board on the right i would say is the sound board not a colour inverter :)

That's the sound board. I know of no difference in PCB between the US Billiards & native Zaccaria - they appear identical.

If you're cab has the original Philips KT-3 monitor no inverter is required, however, since the cab has been converted to another game the monitor may have been modified to accept non-inverted colour for it so you'd need to change the monitor back to it's original Zaccaria configuration (or they may have used an inverter for it instead).

If you're cab has a replacement monitor, it may or may not support inverted colour. If not, you'll need to make an inverter.

Did you post pictures of your cab? Take some close ups of the monitor and interior wiring/power supply.

Paul.
