[Restauration] Crazy Kong fase 2
« on: October 31, 2010, 11:27:00 AM »
After Fase 1 (fix technically) wich is not totally finished, i decided to start with fase 2

The board from ebay is on its way, i hope this is working, and if not, i have full confidence in Robinholland that at least one of the boards will be fixed so i will have a working board in the end. ill update that section when the board arrives.

Lets invetsigate the CP..
A big piece broke off and is not here anymore..

Big damage on the right side also..

It also looks like the joystick is not comming back good to "neutral" position, it stays a little to the right  :-\
I will take it apart and see if it is bend in some way , or that its just something else..

Bottom, still everything in place..  ahh, leafswitches, wonderfull!

A nice place to work on it, hinges perfect , no rust !

The tools for today..  ;)

Electric parts removed..

Time to unscrew the plexi from the wood..

Broken pieces of plexi CPO  :'(

After taking off the CPO..

There is also a crack in the rubber seal from the joystick..
does anyone have a spare  ???

There is a lot of dirt under the CPO...

Already alot better after some cleaning  :D

hmm lets see what i can do with this..

Superglue ! that will do the trick  ;)

you may think, "why he is fixing this if there are parts missing.."

Thats because its "Scanner time"  :D

Scanning in action..

After stitching, ready to trace in Illustrator..

Bela was so kind to scan his CPO for me, but as you can see they are different...

Anyway, ill see what i will use for the reproduction,
Will make a dedicated topic for that later..

Later more to come  8)

different in shape and colors, but the design is identical, isn't it! you should be able to reconstruct yours with the help of bela's scan, mister wizard :D!

anyway, good luck with the resto of your cab, resto threads have always been my favorite topics!
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

Hey that wood looks like a Vanguard CP....guess they used a "standard" hole layout ?

Nice work, Crazy Kong finally deserves some restored artwork available !  After all, that's what we (mostly) all played in Europe (I know I did!)

Yeah that is a Vanguard Cp! ;)
I'm wondering why are the 2 control panels have different colors?
Both of them look like original. ???

Hah, well how many versions of official (f.i. Atari) artwork are there, it's very common...

I think its a "zaccaria" CP  ;)

its just a standard they used i guess, and used this for all theyre cabs

they both look original, and the only difference i can discover is that mine is in a different cab than the one from belike who has got the "full size" zaccaria housing

I like the griders from bela's CPO more than mine wich are just orange.. but ingame they are also orange instead of purple, so i dont know yet what to do  :-\
Also i see that bela's has 3 green stars while mine are all blue, i think i will stick with the blue

the instructioncard section will defenetly be the one like bela's, also i dont know what letter is missing "... VG"   ???

also Bela's marquee has a different shape than mine, mine is just a plain piece of plexi while yours have a bend IIRC

Ok, electronics before dissasemble:

Cables desolderd..

Lets take the joystick apart and see whats wrong with it that prevents it "return to neutral position"

Aha !, that springs that you see there should be one piece, and not 3/4 and 1/4 piece, its broken, and now the tention isnt big enough to "push" it back to the neutral position..  got to fine me a replacement spring...

Also i think its already replaced before, since the manual is talking about a conic spring..

Same story for the buttons...  :'(
also there is only one spring intact...
That also explains the "sloppy" button feeling..

Time to go "Spring hunting"  ;D

The rest of the button parts are now taking a nice jacuzzi, lets see if they will become a little more clean after a night in soap..

Later i will take a toothbrush for the residue of the dirt and we will see what happens..

Anybody a good tip for where to get some springs ?

Looks fun though.

As far as I know it means "Awesome Video Games", it is some kind of rating system.
