OK, for those who have restored owl-eye coin doors before: I've got the rings etc. back to very nice shiny condition, but how to get rid of all the rust on the coin-reject buttons (and rings) ??

Marco ?

Some pics:

Coin insert had a 10p label....

But originally this clearly is a US machine:

So I got rid of the label, the insert cleaned up nice enough to still use.

On the left: one "owl eye" disassebled and cleaned/derusted as good as possible. On the right, the other one still untouched.
Although the parts show their wear, they are nice enough to keep (plus, wherever am I going to find new one's.....)

Macro....you see the wear. In real life, it's hardly visible and the polished up ring shines like new. That ring....my precious ;)

there is only one way to get those perfect and that is rechroming

i would not do it, as this little wear has its charmes

Yep, plus re-chroming costs insanely amounts of money for such small things. No, in real life you'll barely notice and it's ok for such an old lady to show her age a bit....she's still lovely looking anyway  ;D ;D

The coin-reject buttons (called Scavanger buttons by Atari :) ) are the worst of the entire coin door. Badly rusted for sure. One I had to hammer out of it's "bushing" because it was rusted together.

I put both parts in the drill and used sanding paper (two stages) and Brillo to get them as nice as I could.

And done.

I think I seriously worked for 2 hours on them....

You can see they're pretty much pitted, nothing I can do about it (without seriously screwing them up IMHO). Remember you are looking at parts that are very small. The bushings are less than a centimeter in diameter. It looks quite good in real life and I'm happy.

I have been spraying the door and the metal bracket inside the door. Gotta wait till tomorrow until they are fully dry. I will get the door ready so it will look good on the Lunar Lander for Eurocade/RGE but not everything may be in place/restored already because I need my time for some other stuff now :)

Yeah, but that "car" is hardly a classic ;);)

Coin door is half-finished, not happy with some spots of the paint, I also turned it over too soon obviously, but it is at least presentable for RGE..

it's not functioning but doesn't have to be anyway, it's on Freeplay.

The important thing should work: the light :)

and it closes nicely with a brand new lock. I LOVE "keyed-same" locks !!!!

Funny...

Was just watching Rinus711's pictures of RGE on his Facebook page and realized I had never made some really good pictures of the finished Lunar Lander :)

So, thanks to Rinus for these:
