No one mentioned it here so far, but I think this is interesting enough to post here too:

ArcadeSD programmable pcb's returning with new games, a lower price and new features.

Note that this board uses emulation. Apart from that, it's a great board. Not cheap, but very comfortable if you don't want to install a complete PC.

Side note:

I don't own one of the earlier ArcadeShop boards but I would rank this as following:

1): Jrok's Multi-Williams (and hopefully soon also Mylstar) FPGA board. Running on the real processor so NO emulation so as close as you can get to the real thing (no noticeable differences at all)
2): AS board. Great board (the new one) , GREAT features but still emulation in the end...
3): Chinese x in 1 boards. Emulation and well.....far from perfect on some games....apart from a lot of other disadvantages.

I'm quite impressed really. What's your thoughts? I don't know the AS boards... what are those?

Do you think it's worth it?

Having such a PCB simplify the setup procedure, for sure, but ... 300 dollars? Thats not an option for me: emulation can be afforded with much lower prices

- 30 euro's for a PC (let say a P4 with at least 1.7 GHz, but 30 euros are sufficient to buy a 2.6 GHz nowadays... i bought a couple of those for the price two days ago  ;D)
- 55 euro's for JammASD ("THE" PC-to-cabinet interface, audio amp included)
- 10 euro's for an ATI Video card (i.e. 9250) compatible with Soft 15KHz or, even better, Calamity drivers

95 euros in total and more than 5000 games at disposal. If the cab is not Jamma you can buy a complete harness for less than 10 euro's.

Jrok's Multi Williams is another thing: it's expensive, but represent another approach to the need for a reliable PCB (no emulation, as said)

I disagree about jroks' Williams PCB being expensive. A lot of hard work went into that and there are plenty components required on the board. They were $165 and totally worth the money because of the 100% original game play ( no emulation), the reliability for the coming 20 years, the ease of use ( plug &play) plus you can play a number of games, some of them wich would require very expensive boardsets...

In that light, Jroks Willimas FPGA board is a bargain, and Id love to see the Qbert becoming available !!

What I like most about this FPGA solutions is the almost zero boot up time. How long last this boot up time for the arcade sd solution. I`ve seen many sd card solution for old computers like the c64, amiga and other and it was quite impressive. I do have the 3-1 centipede, millipede, missile command FPGA board: Zero boot up time, games are selectable with the trackball, high score saving, just a wonderful PnP solution.

There's a good movie on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKIHwMVDRZo

It is limited to a few "classic" games at the moment.

Here is the link to the Horizontal game list:

Here is the link to the Vertical game list:

I do like this, but the cost is high and I would prefer a larger game list in total. I want to play European game versions instead of the American ones.

ArcadeSD Update 1.11.0 Appears To Be On The Horizon

ArcadeSD Update 1.11.0 Appears To Be On The Horizon.

According to Clay Cowgill...

"Progress is being made-- all but one game in the update are playable in horizontal and vertical modes now. Still got some sound and high score issues, but it's getting closer. Scramble sound is hanging (gets one sound going and just keeps playing it endlessly), so that's a 'must fix' bug at this point still."

Clay also dropped a hint as to the three new games by posting the attached screenshot...
