Used the wife's hair dryer to fold over the edges.... but I felt like a little more heat would have been better......but it worked....

I have some doubt if it was wise to go with black paint on the panel.....seems to shine through a bit on the yellow parts.......but there's no way back now and its not a big thing....

Thats a bummer !

perhaps your feeling was right and you needed more heat ?

or maybe the heating up caused the internal structure of the material to change to more brittle ?

its a thick kind of material right ?

it sucks man, i feel your pain..  :'(

my Crystal Castles repro also cracked. Was pretty pissed about it, too. It is not as bad as yours though. You just see and feel the crack.
I will take a closer look at Centipede, Joust and Gyruss. They all have new cpos.
Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!

Man....the thing is I put SO much effort in that damn CP.....

Don't think the heating during bending was a problem....

But I do remember that I had the cab out in the sun for an hour or 4 last weekend.....I did remove the Marquee (bezel wasn't in there) but didn't give the CP a second of thought.....even so....just 4 hours....and it's barely spring here...

Worst thing is thinking that I might have to remove this SOB again.......grrrrrrr....

Let's focus on positive stuff:

This is my idea for setting up the monitor and supports:

Now I _really_ would love to know how far up the CRT should be from the "floor"......if any Q*bert owner could measure that I'd be extremely thankful.....this size is extremely important as I plan on drilling holes in the supports and I only have one shot to get it right....

Looking at the set up I fear this is not going to fit in the cab.....the metal supports and even the PCB area/plate are going to hit the PCB/backdoor I'm afraid.....
This means hacking the shit out of the monitor.....the PCB is going to have to under the CRT, not too much of a problem, can mount it on the board in the cab.

[Edit] Had a second look. I think I can remove the entire original frame and only keep the two parts that are directly mounted to the CRT. The new supports can be mounted to these, all the other metal is not necessary.

Not doing that now though....I need the distance as mentioned above first  ;D

André, I will try to take care of this today. Not sure if I will make it cause I will pick up some bw-TVs for me and Jochen ;)

If there's time left I will measure the distance of the tube from the supporting board :)

Well....it cracked !

Looks like I'm not the only one: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=222589

Damm after so much work.... What material are these made of anyway plastic or paper? I never replaced a cpo so far. The only one I have is still the galaxian cpo which is at your place!!! And I will not pick it up until I can play Qbert

Good luck with the monitor setup, keep posting I really enjoy these resto threads.

André, I have just been looking behind the glass on Dirk's Q*bert. The monitor sits all the way down on the wood. The tube itself is ~10mm from the wood while the mounting latches in the corners rest on the wood.....not a mm space between metal and wood.

I will upload a picture I have made so you see I wasn't drunk while looking ;)

Thanks !! So is that 10mm. From the lowest part of the CRT ?
I indeed already assumed the frame was flat to the wood....

Here's the pic:

The 10mm are measured from the middle of the edge to the wood.

Does this mean you'll have the Qbert up and running this weekend Andre?

Well I have a very busy weekend up ahead so I'm really not too sure.
I also am playing with the idea of asking someone to weld the metal supports instead of drilling holes and bolting......seems that might be more stable and saves from having to drill the holes.....
