##UK Roadrip## The Heavy Metal RT - Quest For Guitar Freaks
« on: August 02, 2007, 07:21:23 PM »

PART 1 : It's a long way to the top (if you wanna rock'n'roll) !

Sorry but ...because my major sponsor sends me more & more stuff, I've to display them for each roadtrip... That's the deal, so here we go :

Run to the hills ... run for your liiiffe... here's the deal... 600km to drive... If I wanna rock'n'roll  :P

Today, it's the 27th of June, and it's 5:23 in the morning :

... I always need that picture for statistics    ...

The 'tools' of the day... The ususal Nuno's car... and a trailer... It's the first time I'll get a trailer in UK by the way  :?
Of course my wife is with me   :P

...going to UK is common now     ... Belgium... France ...

...and we arrive at Calais... in order to pick up the Euro Tunnel... once more

"Euro Tunnel", official Nuno's roadtrip partner since blablabla

And here we are... on the UK version of the 'Road 66'... the terrific M20

Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, paid my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell
(Don't stop me)

This time, it's over London (by the north)... and we have to pass a huge bridge (can't remember its name  ) :

... have a look at the height of this truck...     Impressive !!!

...still impressive too ...driving on the left...   8)

Ok, we arrive a the meeting point : the seller's house.
He are a little bit early, so let's check where to eat, and close to here of course  :)

Holy Jesus  :D  A Burger King at 12.4 km   8)

Goooo for it !!! ( note for people : There are not Burger King in Belgium... so that is the reason why I'm looking for it in other coutries   Don't blame me pleaaassseee   )

...and I'm happy... I'm feeling fine...  8)  8)  8)  ... in a parking ...

...and finally... one hour later... we are back... the seller is now there... and here's the beast, who was waiting for me

KONAMI's GUITAR FREAKS !!!

 :P  :P  :P  :P  :P  :P  :P  :P  :P

PART II : Start Me Up  ! Start Me Up

I'm a rock guitar player in the real life, so I guess I can handle that toy/guitar... but I can't   So the seller'son show me how to play

Ok, let's check the cab. Everything looks fine, exept a bad contact on the guitar #1, and one of the two speakers sounds a little bit 'fuzzy'... nevermind, It should not be a problem to repair I think...

Well, regarding the size of that game, I wasn't sure if It could be loaded into the car ... and so that's the reason why I got the trailer ... and hopefully...

... don't even think about it ...

Let's bring the trailer, and be ready to 'drop' that Konami's beast into it  :o

It was quite easy to lay down the cab...because at no time we had to really carry the game... thanks to the 4 wheels under it  8)

Great, the package is ready... it's time to pay for that toy ... still the worst part of the story  :?

Did you notice the red arrow ? At that time I lost something...

...

MY WEDDING RING !!!!

...

Of course, I didn't know I was losing it at that moment  :?

Reminder : Never remove a wedding ring and put in a pocket !!!

Time to say goodbye to these three very nice  guys, and go back to home...

...after something like 20 minutes of driving, I notice that I didn"t have my wedding ring around my finger anymore !!!!
I say to my wife :"Don't worry, I'll call the seller, ask him to found it for you... and send it back via mail to Belgium"

NNNooooo Waaayyyyyyyyyy she says     Make a U-Turn... you must find it now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so we go back to the seller... and hopefully, after 5 minutes of research on the floor... I found it  :o  I was very lucky... because it was in a middle of 1.000.000 small stones  (check once again the last picture)

MMYYY PREEEECCCCCCIIIIOOOOOOOOOOUUUSSSS  :D  :D  :D

That 'ring story' costs us more than one hour... we are now a little bit late  :?  ...the way of home now...

Go back on the bridge ...

...very impressive isn"t it ?

...and very long too ...

... and of course, not free !

Ok, we are now at Folkestone... just 20 meters to go before entering 'Le Shuttle' ... we are waiting for that bus who has some problems to enter in ...

See the blue van, and the woman... For some reasons, the blue van starts to make a revese gear... and... drive on that poor woman  :x  :x  :x

Hopefully the van were at a low speed, but the driver didn't notice the woman... and she was screaming....
I immidialty start to hoot like a crazy, and ... the blue van's driver stop immidialty !

Thanks my Lord, that girl wasn't too injuried... but she was very shocked of course !!!!

A lot of people came... security .... and of course, they stop the eurotunnel traffic almost one hour ! Can't you imagine ?!

Ok, so after one hour, we can enter into the train

We were a little bit tired, after showing that accident, I can assure you that we were fully awake now :?

Ok, after 100km 'under the sea', we are now in France... but we have to stop because the tarpaulin is starting to fly on the trailer... very dangerous when you're driving of course   ... hopefully, my wife has the correct 'tool'

... overview ... it's more safe now

...on the road again ... again ... now arriving in Belgium

One more cab stolen from UK !!!  :P

Opsss.. it's late ...

...by the way, Where do I will put that cab   ? I've no free place at the moment...   ... Let's call Freddy (See the Galaxian 3 Theater roadtrip   )

As you can imagine, he's starting to be angry on me !!!! He has to remove his caravan   It's so late !!! He gonna hate me for real  8)

Ok, it"s now safe... I promise to Freddy and to my Mom that I'll remove the game asap

...and 45 minutes later, we are finally at home  8)

Ok, now the usual pictures  :)  :

...few days later, I bring the game at home...

...and because I've no more room inside the Nuno's Lair, the only issue is to put the game directly into our house  :?

Because that game is REALLY heavy, I need some help   We must be at least 4 guys to carry the game  :o

Thanks to HervĂ©, Pat & Alain for the help  :D

After a long trip and many stories... that Guitar Freaks is now safe  :P

Stay TuNeD for the 'in deep analyse  :)

Nice machine. Can't wait to have a go.
Hope the repairs will be as easy as you expect them to be.
Due to the size of this one (not to mention the size of Galaxian Theatre) I'll bet Nuno's Lair V2 will be visble from The Netherlands.

Great cab.
current line up: 3 x New Astro City 2x Atomiswave SD, 3 x Aero (2 NOS) and Aero Table
Pac Man
Black Knight pinball
On the way: Daytona USA

Nice score! Say, how does that work with customs? You're always taking road trips to other countries, do you have to stop and pay a duty?

Found this in wiki, as you can see we're lucky: no customs.

Customs Control
Most of the members of Schengen are also members of the EU, between which customs controls have also been abolished, leaving no checks at all at the borders. On borders between two Schengen members where one is a non-EU country, customs checks remain. Between two EU members where one is non-Schengen (for example France and the UK), there are identity (passport) checks but no customs checks.

Black Knight pinball

Thanks Havok  :o

Because it's most of the time very old games, customs don't care about them  8)
I'm not sure what happens if it was modern gambling machines  :?:

Most of the time you won't have any problems with the English customs, they're pretty correct as long as you aren't transporting big amounts of alcohols and tabacos or foodstuff. And ofcourse if you're passing with new stuff make sure you'll have the correct papers on you. And for the rest be nice, kind and helpfull, it will be much appreciated, but I guess that will be the case wherever you'll go.  :D
God must love crazy people, he made so many of them!!

Back on this  8)

During the last test done in July 2007 ()... the game didn't power on. One of the three power suppled looked bad...

...and I Left that project for other ones on my top list...

So, one year and half later, let's go back on this one  ;D

A first box/cage that seems to be the sound amplifier

Here's the main Konami board

The protection dongle :

An other view of the main 'board'

Ok, so I'll replace the *dead* power supply with this one (a Peter Chou) :

Don't pay attention to that 'dirty' wiring  It's just to test with the new power supply  ;)

Yess  :) :-* The game boots... I can hear it but I can't see anything on screen  :-[ I pull off/on the wires in the back of the monitor + other wires and

Yes... it works... but time to time the picture goes away for a micro second... I think I still have a bad contact somewhere around the monitor  :?

OK, let's put the new power supply in a right place and clean all that mess... it looks better now :

At least the game is playable  :-* :-* :-*

But :

- The guitar #1 doesn't work all the time. I'll check all the connections
- The left HP gives me some bad noises during the games. I'll check all the audio connectors
- The worst problem : time to time the picture goes away for a micro second. Probably a false contact somewhere...

Back on this  8)

...
- The worst problem : time to time the picture goes away for a micro second. Probably a false contact somewhere...

One step backwards ... the original monitor is now *dead*  :ghost:

It's a Polo 28"

I'll have to replace it... Let's remove it.

Hey, what's that ? what behind?

HP of course  8) ... acoustic reasons?

Ok, the monitor is removed :

Here it is :

Now I'll have to replace it... and at this point, I can tell you I'm very lucky  ::) :P

Yes, because of this

It's the last 'old' CRT TV I own... I have it since 8 years... and I didn't know what to do with it?... because the size is not right for all my old cabinets... 28" is just big! ... but not for the Guitar Freaks cab'  *PERFECT MATCH*  ;D

I'll use of course the SCART connector in order to input the native RGB signals from the Konami's board.

After checking once again...

...

well, you're right vib_ribbon  8)  I've just find this  :o

Impossible !!! How the hell the customs officers didn't find it?

Let's check what's inside these bags  ::)

...Mhhh very strange... let's taste this ?  ::) :P

Hey... I don't know how... but my Guitar Freaks is working again  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

...and I'm playing guitar better than Eric Clapton, check this out
