The smaller "brother" of the first station is now on offer with RS HOLLAND:

Note this is excl. VAT (19%).

In Germany it costs a bit more:

i've just bought this one:

http://www.ersa.de/art-0rds80-257-1343.html

Somehow that looks familiar ;)

I don't have a desoldering station, you only need it if you're going to do a shit-load of desoldering....

thats true, wick and a handpump will do fine if you do need to desolder only sometimes

but since i have it , i get used to it, and sometimes it makes your job easier

by the way, my heater element gave up on me last week, and luckily i managed to fix it with some wires and shrinking tube instead of replacing it......
the price of "number 6" did not make me happy  :o

I'm thinking of getting a soldering station also. The RS DS50 which André 'advertised' above is  only € 50,90 excl. VAT. Is this one good enough for occasional use for soldering on electronic boards, or should I get one like Ully did, which costs at RS  € 135 excl. VAT. And I suppose that I have to buy an extra soldering tip when I get the Ersa because that one comes with a 2,2 mm tip (way too big for PCB soldering).

I don't want to spend too much money on this, but I also don't want to buy a cat in the bag.

You can use 1,5mm or 1,00mm for "classic" pcb. For particular pcb (computer pcb) 0,80/0,60mm are preferible.

Ully: do a search on e-bay for tips, there's a guy in the UK who sells them very cheap (I bought some from him, don't remember exact sizes).

Erik: I think it will be fine.

are those "restricted" to our ersa station because a search on ebay uk with "soldering tips" brings up a looooooot of results :-\

Yep. Check the ERSA site for a number of compatible tips and then search for those numbers

Erik: I think it will be fine.

Thanks, I just ordered it, together with a role of leaded solder tin and two extra tips (a spare 0.8 and a 1.6). No shipping costs! That's great.

Got this delivered this morning:

I noticed that the extra ordered 0.8 mm tip was also in the package, but the 1.6 mm wasn't. I called customer service of RS and they told me that the 1.6 mm tip is coming from the UK and that I will get it probably by mail today or tomorrow. Great Service. I can't understand how they do this without charging any shipping costs (sure I know, the costs are incorporated in the item sales prices), and still have good prices.

Another strange thing, the box was delivered from RS Germany, then why is the soldering station more expensive if you buy it over RS Germany?

Edit: DHL Express just delivered the 1.6 mm tip. :D RS stole my hearth and I sure will order more often from them. They have great stuff.
