Hey DarthNuno, they seem to want your help on Twitter. Just letting you know.

Goodness, I'm having a bit of trouble finding my way around using X/Twitter  :-[ . Could you point out what kinds of requests there are?

Thanks for the link.

Well, I'm not sure which part(s) to replace at this stage. Your cabinet is a Brent Leisure or Elettronolo ? Do you have some pictures of your cabinet?

As I?m currently working on restoring my arcade cabinet, I will certainly need to find a set of side arts... 8)
What did you ultimately use to restore your cabinet?
Did you start from your own scan? Did you buy a reproduction? I know this topic is a bit dated, but if you come across this, let me know.  ;)

Thanks for the picture  :) Yes, indeed, I had read several years ago on their Twitter feeds that they were using PCs to replace the video part (thus replacing the laser disc players).
You can actually see it quite clearly in the picture

The ships, laser shots, as well as the score, are superimposed on the images produced by the PC(s).
Interesting to see that they used Windows XP as the operating system.  8)

I would have loved to have more information on this topic, but unfortunately, it is very difficult to get direct information  :-\.  One day, I hope I'll go to Japan to see their monster in action and ask all the questions I've since years! :spaceace:

Alright, I'm bringing the arcade cabinet back out for a closer inspection.
The artwork on this side has suffered, particularly at its base :

The other side is much more damaged :-[

...ouch...  :-\

Let's take a closer look at the two speakers

Looking at the state of the right speaker? it does make you wonder what could have caused such damage. It might have been insects, like termites or carpenter ants, which can chew through materials. Alternatively, it could have been caused by a rodent gnawing away at it... whatever, it is dead!

Under the back door, I can say that the cabinet is in good condition. I mean the structure is rather sturdy.

On the other hand, all the metal parts have suffered from rust.

With so many plays on the counter, I think the game has definitely been well-utilized. 8)

I?m removing the metal parts...10 pence arcade  coins  8) , evidence that it was indeed operated in England, where I went to retrieve it.  :pac: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

...Other coins here and there. For my English friends here, what was the price of a DL2 game back in the day?

Here are the rusted parts that I will be working on

Since the arcade cabinet is outside, I'm taking the opportunity to give it a deeper clean. The colors are now much brighter and vibrant.  :)

You'd almost forget about the damaged artwork!  ::)

Still looking for it.
Well, I didn't think it would be so difficult to find a Zaccaria marquee.  :-\

First of all, welcome to DLF/ALS board 'saturnjaguar'  :)

Thank you for sharing this news.   :spaceace:
Well, unfortunately, I won't be able to arrange a trip to Japan on such short notice, but I would love to meet one day all those groups of Japanese enthusiasts who keep the Galaxian3 spirit alive for the public.  :)

Welcome back, Brian, it's great to hear from you after so many years! Like many of us here, life moves on, priorities change, but in the end... we can never completely forget our true passions.  ;)

I see you have a Dragon's Lair Arcade 1up.  8) Despite what people say about it, I'd still be curious to give it a try. Unfortunately, it's not available in Europe. :?

Oh, and I'd be keen to see more images of your collection, particularly the cels! :)

Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Re: Now I got an Atari Space Ace (Project)

Done the measurements:
The stricker was 80 width and 100 high.

Thank you for having taken the measurements of the 'ghost' of your sticker.  :)
I still wonder which sticker it was?  Because on my German Dragon's Lair arcade machine, as well as on the French one, the square 'Atari' sticker measures 17 cm on each side.
I had already created a dedicated topic about this sticker. (see here)
So, the remnants of your rectangular sticker have me a bit curious... ::)

Let's continue examining the beauty. No more PCBs or the laser video disc player. However, years of dust...and rust  :?

Not only did I bring back this arcade machine from England, but I also smuggled in some eight-legged roommates and a few other creepy-crawly companions!  ;D

Arghhh, this is not the original DL2 joystick :ghost:

The monitor bezel has also taken a hit. :ghost: What on earth could have happened to damage the bezel?

Alright, I'll remove the screen. The chassis has definitely taken a beating from the rust as well.  :-\

Located above the screen, there's a sheet of metal...

Once the metal plate is removed, I can access quite a few things, including the two large screws that hold the two parts of the arcade cabinet together...

...and thanks to the relentless grip of rust, one of these two large screws has met its inevitable demise  :?

With plenty of rust on the speakers grille as well... this arcade cabinet could easily have been part of the legendary haul from the 'Duke of Lancaster' raid...  ;D

26
A question to the cabinet, can the top be removed/disassambled?

Yes, quite easily :) Pictures to come.
Do you also own a DL2 cab?

Dragon's Lair / Space Ace / Dragon's Lair 2, the second one... WIP!
« on: April 18, 2025, 10:51:46 PM »
Following this road trip

What an epic one, huh?  ;D

So why "Dragon's Lair 2, the second one" in the title?
As I explained in the road trip report, I once owned a Dragon's Lair 2 arcade cabinet 20 years ago. I sold it a few years ago...I thought I wouldn't regret it, but that wasn't the case.  :? Fortunately, I've found another cabinet, still in England, but this time it requires a lot of work!"  :pac: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

So, let's continue this story. Unloading the cabinet

First examination ...

It's the same versoin than my first one: an Italian version made by Elettronolo :

Serial is -as far as I can read- 000655 or 000656? The last two digits are hardly visible.  :ghost: I will need to take more photos with different lighting conditions to confirm these two digits.
Anyway, we're not far from my first DL2 cabinet, which had the serial number 000683

Alright, we'll take a look at everything after an initial rough cleaning  ;D

Can you measure the size of the square left by the sticker? I would like to compare it with the one on my Dragon's Lair.

I am not sure if I should use the LED Score board in this Cabinet, or just add the Atari sticker.

Neither of these two solutions! Your cabinet is proof that the Space Ace release (from factor) that came in a DL European cabinet did not have the square Atari logo, and since this is a European cabinet, it is prohibited to attach a score LED like the US versions. :ghost:
My Space Ace doesn't have the Atari square logo either.

Is a version of Dragon?Lair available that don?t need the LED Score Board, like Space Ace.?

Hell yes, go with the roms for Europe/Atari. Scores will be displayed on the screen between the stages!  :spaceace:
