he has had this on offer for weeks now, lowering the starting bid every single time. if i remember correctly, the cockpit started with 999 euros, now it's down to 140 :P. if anyone wants it, i'd wait a little while longer ;). unfortunately, its too far out for me ...

What a beautiful cabinet. I have played it in Japan and loved it!

Post by: level42 on December 30, 2010, 09:44:28 AM
I wouldn't wait to long else it might get dumped. 140 is definitly low for a PP cockpit and the condition looks to be pretty nice.

But we all know the problem with PP....the hardware is a bitch, and if you believe that it's "just a fuse" you will probably be disappointed.

Must say I'm very tempted by this but I really don't have the space for it.....

What a beautiful cabinet. I have played it in Japan and loved it!

Must have been the original Namco version though :)

I love this too. I remember I first saw this cab on a TV program (before I saw it in the arcades) and my mouth was WIDE open because of the unbelievable graphics, I just couldn't believe that that was possible, it was SO realistic compared to what we were used to in those days.

I have exactly the same feeling about PP as I have with SW: you HAVE to play it in a cockpit. The upright simply is not half the fun.

Ully......did I _really_ read there that it was too far away from you !?!?!?!?!?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mmmmmmmmm.......is anyone interested in an upright Power Drift ? (Working !)

Must say I'm very tempted by this but I really don't have the space for it.....

how cool would it be to have this next to your star wars cockpit, andré! and you had to walk through the PP cockpit to get to the star wars cab ;D. go for it, andré!!! dump that power drift, it's too modern :P

Ully......did I _really_ read there that it was too far away from you !?!?!?!?!?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

you REALLY read that, but in case you thought you were dreaming: IT'S TOO FAR AWAY FOR ME!!!

honestly, i already have a pole position cockpit waiting in a warehouse for me a mere 50 kilometers away, but there is still a legal dispute going on over some stuff there, so until that is settled, they are not allowed to let go of it - although it has already been paid for (100 euros by the way). when i last turned it on, it was freaking working, but we all know what can happen to games over time, especially when we're talking about pole position!

Post by: gyruss on December 30, 2010, 10:59:30 AM
Yes, it was indeed a namco cabinet, i'll post pictures of the vintage arcade where i played soon.

And Ully is right, you should get it! Power Drift degrades your otherwise impressive collection ;)

Ok,

Bonjour,

Pourriez-vous me dire si la carte (PCB) se trouvant dans la borne est bien celle d'origine (Pole Position) ?

Merci

The first one is here. It needs restoring but will clean up nice. The biggest issue is there is black paint on the red control panel area. But it comes off easy enough.

Title: Re: French ebay
Post by: level42 on January 01, 2011, 10:58:40 AM
Yeah......I've got some mixed feelings.....yes the PD will be leaving....a fine working cab makes place for something I can only hope to get running  ::) ;D

And damn it's far and I need a big van to house it....but I already knew this upfront....

Sometimes doing crazy things in life is fun :)

Took some serious heat from Mrs. Level this time for this....

O well, that eased down already....

I have to say that although those Jap Namco cabs are cool because they are the "original", I do find the Atari version more beautiful and it also looks much more compact (may not be true in real life) but anyway it looks sleeker to me. I also always love the Atari steering wheel (which is of course much too large for a racing car like that, but I still have always wanted a game with an Atari logo-ed racing wheel :P
Title: Re: French ebay
Post by: gyruss on January 01, 2011, 12:09:26 PM
I also think the design of the atari version looks (a little bit) better. But they both look great, very nice color combination and art!

Now let's hope you get it running without too much headaches.

I feel very, very, VERY bad at the moment.

There's a very long story to it. But I don't feel like writing it.

Anyway, this deal didn't go through, entirely because of my decision.

I'll tell more later, the bottom line is that the costs of getting the machine here in _any_ way is so extreme, that I just can't justify it....

So no PP for me... :-\ :'(

so my paperpuzzle did not help you any further   :'(
Too bad Andre, but like gyruss says , space for another racer..   outrun Deluxe maybe?   ;D

Or the one from Alpha1, he has two, and only needs one he said  ::)
Title: Re: French ebay
Post by: level42 on January 28, 2011, 01:48:55 PM
Yeah, thanks again for that Etienne !!!!!

Actually, the "puzzle" did help me a lot, and that was preventing a road trip of 1700km and discovering that the PP wouldn't fit in the South of France....!!! Now THAT would have hurt even more !!

About the space: well, I will need some space for the Video Pinball anyway so that's a good thing !

I have to give a lot of credits to the seller too, he was very reasonable about it (although of course also disappointed). We handled it as gentlemen and I paid his E-bay costs, which of course was the least I could do...

About Alpha1's Jap cockpits: Well, apart from probably costing (about) the same for the trip (and I think Olly may want a bit more for it then I had won the French PP for....which makes sense) I'm going to be honest here and say that I think the Namco version is not as nice looking as the Atari is. I really like the shape of the Atari much better. I also like the "cockpit" better, that is the steering wheel (even though the Jap steering wheel is more realistic, I really like the over-sized American styled Atari wheel). But the entire dashboard looks a bit.....I don't know, just not my style....

BUT I am first to admit that they are cool _because_ they are the original Namco version.

About PP: as usual, I do a lot of "homework" when I know that I am going to buy/get a new machine. (I already knew the main problems with SW before I even brought it home :) )

If you are a bit interested there is a load of (technical) documentation from the Irish factory right here:
http://www.alsarcade.com/Andy/arc/atari/index.html

Scroll all the way down and there are some great docs about PP there.
Interesting stuff, lot's of problems with the hardware (as we already knew).

OK here are the pics:

The machine has been in a medical center for a long time. They moved the machine and then it stopped working. That's when the seller took it home before it got trashed....
It's blowing a fuse on power-up.  (There's some hacked on diode-bridge visible on the power supply, I wouldn't be surprised if there was simply some wires shorting.....)

Mmmmm, I can't remember playing Monaco but it looks very impressive for a game without processor !!

I like the cockpit features: sound system is reported to be great and a working tacho-meter ! I also like the LED score displays...

I've seen a cabaret version in the UK but it was not working. I love the cocktail version :)

Andre,

Can't you get a shipper to pick up the PP?

When I buy a cabinet in Europe, I usually use www.shiply.com

It is like eBay, but all the shippers bid for your work, and they bid smaller, making it cheaper for you when you pick one.

Anything like that in Europe? Although the above site will probably do France>Holland

We have the same "bidding" system here in Hungary and the bad transporters get banned from the system, so you can have cheap and good quality service.

Man......that thought went through my mind every second of watching the roadtrip and repair pics and video.....
It even has a PP2 board ! (Which I would prefer because of 4 different tracks).

Man, that video where it's playing, you know.....it's almost like I could FEEL it....I know so well how PP "feels" how that steering wheel feels.....

Damn.....yes I am sad......for some moments.

But it _was_  simply not possible for me, so no regrets !

AND I am _VERY_ happy that it has been rescued and is now in safe hands, also for the seller !

So, still a  ;D for the upcoming weekend. I hope to have some time to bring out the Asterock and work on it in a nice and sunny backyard :P

i'm sorry to hear that, would have been another great addition to your gameroom. there was one on a french auction site a couple of months ago with a buy-it-now price tag of around 900 euros - it went in no time! couldn't even think about where to steal that amount of money from ... ;)

Thank you, yup I kept it original because it was like that. Ser. nr. 815. The only earlier Galaxian I know of stands about 5 km. from my home at Robin's place. His has exactly the same side art as on the flyer...this is also the only Galaxian that I know of that has that !

The German flyer has a nice close-up of this:

I totally recommend an Asterock ;)

Advantages over the original Asteroids:

1) the CP is 10 times as comfortable to play
2) cheaper. A lot
3) much more compact cab
4) excellent quality of PCB's and cabinet. No el-cheapo bootleg

Disadvantages ?
1) Gameplay is a tiny bit different, esp. the sounds
2) It's not a real Atari ;)

About the Asterock cab  ;D :

Bonjour,
 Cordialement

To sum up : Sidam is a great brand (Atari : WTF  ), and give me your big money for that cab  :spaceace:!
Title: Re: French ebay and "Le Bon Coin"
Post by: level42 on June 14, 2011, 05:42:26 PM
Google translate makes this of it:

Hello,
the cabinet is in a nickel, and a copier was not SIDAM
but one of the largest distributor of the time! he made of
furniture to install the CPU. And if you consider it a
  copy, why make a point?
Finally for the price, it is clear that I cete machine has
  over 100 €!
  cordially

Hah, not a "copier" !!! Show him this:

http://www.arcade-history.com/?n=asterock&page=detail&id=125

You don't have to consider it a copy, it IS a copy/bootleg.

However, I do agree with the seller that it's worth more than €100. The G05-802 in there is already worth that kind of money, maybe more in Europe.
And it _does_ work, I had to havd the PCB repaired plus the power supply..

By the way Sidam did make licensed DL cabs for Atari later...

Sounds like you're not happy 2-mad....? FYI I e-mailed BEFORE you posted your reply to the thread.

I actually think we both make a very slim chance because my guess is that there are plenty of local guys in that area that will want it...and also for a seller it's easier to deal with local people.

OK, glad you're not angry...there are probably more guys who responded but don't mention it here.....or maybe not. Let's see what happens...again, I think we don't stand a very large chance...

Hey, catching up on this thread.
I saw the Ice Cold Beer!
The whole thing is rotten to the bone. The PCB is completely oxydated, the motors and everything else a big pack of rust, and the vinyl just bursting open everywhere from dampness. That photo is 5 years old the guy told me.
In the end he wanted to let it go for 40€, and then for free, but it was not worth the petrol, time, van rental and so on. Seriously guys, I know you pick up some stuff in a biad state, but this one is as close to collapsing from dampness as it gets. Which is a rela shame.
Some flaking on the screen, even though not too much. I suppose that could be saved.

For the record, it was about 3-4 weeks ago, and the barn/shed it is being help in is REALLY damp.

HOLY SH....that is NICE !!!!! What a brilliant side-art !!

TOTALLY better looking than the original Cinematronics which looks pretty boring to be honest (artwork-wise !).

GO FOR IT BRUNO, it's working too as far as my limited French tells me.

If you don't want it, I'm pretty sure Speleo might be quite interested. At least he will have to add these pics to his website.  ;D

The builder's name is Sonic.....how cool  ;D ;D It's from Spain according to Speleo's site...(http://andysarcade.de/vec_all.html)

The first real cab I see. The flyer is available for some time... http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&subpage=thumbs&id=3210 (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&subpage=thumbs&id=3210)

@DarthNuno : I'd be curious to see more pictures, also inside, in higher resolution, to include on my Vector Website. Are you going to contact the seller anyway for pictures, so I can leverage from that? I am not to good in french

Perpignan, thats pretty down south in France  :P

EDIT: yeah interested, but the distance will kill the deal, I guess.

Who knows  .... I suspect its a license. I hope the PCB or Monitor pictures will help. If they still contain the Cinematrics/Vectorbeam logos, good chance for a licensed version.

Nice buy. You can buy the stencils for the artwork from MikesArcade.com... I think. That's only if the artwork needs touched up.

I would recommend that you get a Braze multigame board for this... it allows you to play 8 games that used this boardset... Lunar Rescue, Balloon Bomber, etc.

It already seems to be gone as I cannot find it anymore but it might still be there and it was practically a give-away:
Yesterday there was a Qberts Quest pinball game on Le Bon Coin. Very rare, only 800 built, with all the sounds from the arcade game and a quirky qbert universe playfield layout.

Remember there is a Space Tactics feautured in that great video recovered by Gyruss right here:

There is a very good reason why it was only a cockpit....would be close to imposible to fit the complicated mechanics in an upright.....

exactly! some nice videos here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxq00qQNxdA) and here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxq00qQNxdA)! amazing technology, but the more technology inside a cab, the more things can fail. btw, love those led laser light effects on the screen ... :o

oh and Ully, i think "dave" would have probably cried if he had gone to collect that !!

first he would have cried, then he would have killed me! ;D

"luckily" there are some heavy scratches on the controls and the displays, otherwise i would be tempted (and of course the price is still steep for a non-working machine, no matter its rarity). hopefully the price doesn't drop! :P

I am a huge fan of Exidy games, the major problem with Bandido is, that it is from Nintendo and slooooow. I contacted the seller, lets see...

isn't bandido the exact same game as nintendo's sheriff, only that it uses a b/w monitor with color overlay (instead of a color crt) and the cab is not that beautiful as the nintendo version? man, i'd kill for the nintendo cab ...

Never seen that game before... seems to be a mix between a kicker and an air hockey? Like 'Windjammers' on Neo Geo. Do you know that game?

Try Ade.

I sold him my cabinet and gave him a spare pcb, complete wiring loom, marquee and glass bezel.

I kept the NOS CP for some reason.

It's a really good game - try it in MAME.

I can't remember who made the game first. Taito have the same game called 'Kamikazee' - I forget which way it was licensed.

Here in Italy is not so easy to find cabinets...especially old ones...
I spoke with many operators here and all of them told me that they want to pay taxes on those old
machines so they broke them into pieces or burnt them.
Someone also told me they buries working cabinets....:(
You've to go in very old places to try to find cabs...
Maybe i can go to find a good place (600km far away from me) in some weeks.
Let me know if they come back to you Bruno.
Thank you.

This was for sale by Neo Legend at an auction in December. It reached 1300euro but was not awarded.
http://www.millon-associes.com/html/index.jsp?id=17146&lng=fr&npp=10000

Neo Legend just tried to advertise it, bidding on its own machine. This also helped Million for its sale with more collectible items.

Left side is not beautiful, bezel broken at the red button (you can see it on the pic) and T-molding is ugly.

A part from the ICB and PP cockpit, they were in poor conditions.

Rally-Z......so....why didn't they go for Rally-Y.....Maybe two Y's would be too confusing ? LOL :)

Nice one :) Love Euro-bootlegs :)

Yes, I'm more and more fan of such curiosities! There's always new cabinets to discover... I'm starting to think we are by far more lucky than our US friends on this point!  :) How boring it should be to only know the 'official' US Pac Man version for example... :P

for such a very rare time  ::)  it's local for me  :P... but it's so ugly i didnt want to go see it,   even if the board itself sounds like 100€ (and i doubt it's still in or this game),    but the panel seems the original.

seems like a generic cab for   black dragoon ?  that remembers me some old pictures.
Title: Re: French ebay and "Le Bon Coin"
Post by: DarthNuno on February 05, 2015, 06:53:35 PM
Nope, it's NOT a generic cabinet, I'm 99% sure it's an original Sega cabinet. Maybe not a 'Natural Born Golden Axe', but I clearly I recognize the shape, the front door… identical to my Zaxxon, even the ugly woodgrain  :D It would be nice to see more on that one to confirm, but I'm 99% positive as far as I can see on that pic…

Man that place looks like "my" first "arcade" on the camping site in Renesse, Zeeland !!!

Speedrace, Duckhunt all games I remember vividly. I was a master at Speedrace, learned the pattern and could do it "by heart" in the end....looks to be in very good shape for such an old one !!!

If I had plenty of space I'd taken that too.

By the way you missed another very important one: there's also a Nintendo Battle Shark that looks to have the Sky Hawk film installed seeing the sticker on the front......I don't think I've ever seen that sticker on a Battle Shark before......this is a MUST SAVE game !

And yes that one was also in my childhood arcades :)

(By the way, the Before Mario collection needs a Battle Shark ;);) )

Guys I would love to buy that Vidéo Flipper but the guy quoted an insane shipping price (450) and he doesn't even know if the machine is complete (hopefully he is willing to take some pics).

So......if there is some insane luck that someone in the south of France (Avignon area) is able to arrange some transport northwards for this cab that would be brilliant...

Side art color combo is Euro version.....I see it by the colors but most easy to see: no green on the inside squares of the wings.

Pretty sure this is a Euro version, maybe some units didn't get the "Bertolini" name on the side art ?

It's a Bertolini, not a Namco Japan one.
Title: Re: French ebay and "Le Bon Coin"
Post by: Franzy21 on August 03, 2015, 01:39:04 AM
Some more pictures of this Galaxian...

Bezel and CPO do not look like original so I'd say it is difficult to have a definitive opinion.
However I believe we are right when guessing that this is not a japanese Namco Galaxian (even though the marquee is missing the Fratelli Bertolino text...)
And HANTAREX doc inside is in Italian...
Can this be an early/pre-production Bertolino or from another Italian manufacturer I've not heard of?

Title: Re: French ebay and "Le Bon Coin"

Two more pictures.
Title: Re: French ebay and "Le Bon Coin"
Post by: level42 on August 03, 2015, 07:23:46 AM
I am 100% sure it's the Italian version.

The coin door, the Hantarex monitor and the look and colors of the side art give it away. It's not very clear but it also seems to be missing the typical wood blocks on the top where those metal "lifting handles" are on the Japanese one (like Taito cabs).
The last and pretty clear indication is that the PCB lacks the Namco logo and the big voltage regulator on the right is a TO-3 type which was never used on the Midway or Namco boards AFAIK......this board looks like the one Muerto has in his Berolino Galaxian.

Indeed I think this may have been an early version, as you can see the marquee is also lacking the Bertolino texts that it normally has so that is pretty interesting. The color of the marquee could be another indication but it's impossible to tell from pictures.

Since the original board is still in there (and it doesn't look hacked (although it seems there are 3 RAMs missing on the far right edge) I guess they only replaced the bezel/CP......I bet it had the same fate as almost all those plexi only bezel/CP plates, damaged by abuse.

Anyway.......not worth 1800 euro by far ;)

Title: Re: French ebay and "Le Bon Coin"
Post by: level42 on August 03, 2015, 07:31:40 AM
Oh, the marquee also lacks the name of the game in Japanese characters.....

2 friends bought it years ago and want to sell it. They got few contacts and decided to advertise it near Paris at higher price.

Most ridiculous is the add that was published today on a major french pinball forum : buy Gunfight at any price...

From the same guy who sold the quite rare Star Raker (here (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=2282.msg88702#msg88702)), here's something I've never seen... well, it looks like a Namco's Mappy... licensed (or not?) to Siddam.. see the bezel, the side arts, the marquee...it screams an official thing!
OK it's now running an Xin1 jamma board, but the cabinet itselft is very interesting IMHO :) Anyway, BIN @ 390€ right here (http://www.leboncoin.fr/consoles_jeux_video/844549521.htm?ca=15_s).

Wonder if Sidam was sponsored by the tobacco industry ? again a machine with built-in ashtrays.....still,a good idea for those days, it saved the CPOs :):)

Very cool one, didn't know Sidam had this but the start buttons on the front of the panel is clearly an indication for them.

Love how there also game figures on the inside sides of the monitor area.

That's really cool, I imagine the marquee is the same design as the Japanese marquee since it's so narrow; the blue line motif matches Namco's cocktail CPOs of the time.

.. well, it looks like a Namco's Mappy... licensed (or not?) to Siddam.. see the bezel, the side arts, the marquee...it screams an official thing!

I think it's official too.. sometimes it happends also for Sidam!

That photos confirm me that Sidam use a blank glass (without arts on it) in origin...only the inside cardboard.

I have a Sidam Dig Dug cab to recover, and will be more easy for me replace the glass... but the sidam marquee will be hard to find (report "Sidam" under "namco")!

Things to look for: if there are bolts through the kick-plate (under the CP area) and it has no speaker slots to the right of the coin door it's not Namco....AFAIK.

I think there are also bolts on the sides of these cabs, Namco Japan machines are absolutely without any of those on the sides.

Weren't these even ID-ed as French clone cabs ? Karetco or something ?

I sent an email to the seller of the Space Attack now. I asked if he would be willing to put it on a pallet and have it shipped to Sweden. Odds are he might not be interested in that so if anyone on here lives nearby, I'd be happy to pay that someone 100 eur or something to help out in picking it up, putting it on a pallet and having it shipped to Sweden. Shoot me a pm if you can help with that :)
