Picked up a grail PCB :)
« on: November 13, 2013, 11:03:25 PM »
Been after one of these for a long while, and thanks to a friend over on Jamma+ Finally picked it up.
I dont know if these are easily found in the rest of europe but over here in the uk it seems the bulk of galagas were the GALAG bootleg, and not even many of them come up for sale!!

Its an interesting one tho, as it seems identical to a namco/midway pcb yet there are no markings other then numbers, 90% sure its real tho, anyone know anything about that?

Its all about the scanlines.....

I think this is a Japanese Namco PCB
It is a Original galaga pcb
Only Original pcb's have custom chips

Cheers fellas,

Mine looks just like yours Chris, numbered instead of marked. I wonder what the story is behind them, im guessing either early revisions, or late revisions that they couldnt be bothered to stamp!

I have a different kind of bootleg, it is a real good one, gameplay is 100% identical (as far as I can judge).

I have a Original namco super pacman pcb (rare)
It have only numbers , no namco on the pcb
I have also an Original namco mappy pcb with only numbers
This is normal for original namco pcb's

Galaxian DOES have NAMCO on the PCB, I guess they were too much ashamed to put it on Galaga.....

It's tricky for you older fellas to handle more then 1 bullet at once  ;)

So it seems that its not a common occurance to find namco stamped PCB's then. I think i just kind of expected it after seeing a few stamped GALAGA on the internet.

You young boys just don't have the patience and skill to hit them with just one shot, HA !

My motto: Galaga is for boys, Galaxian is for men.

Touche!

Both great games tho, one obviously far greater then the other, and we both have our opinions on which :)

I will say Galaxian has the most haunting and scary sound of any arcade game I know. I must have only been about 6 or 7 when I heard it. Scared the crap out of me. And is still iconic.

Grew up on Galaga though. Love it.
