RetroGaming @ Wiels Museum
« on: March 12, 2012, 01:32:57 PM »
Last Saturday the cool people from Retroludix organised a nice retrogaming event @ the Wiels in Belgium.
The building used to be a beer brewery (Wiels beer) and is now used as a modern art museum.
(guys, my Asteroids almost did it to the event but it kept on resetting a few hours before the launch of the party...bummer!)

Anyway, this was a F.U.N. night, always cool to see people excited by the games as the night goes by!

One of the reasons why cocktail tables should get more love even if they are space consuming!
+ in a public event like this with, I think it doesn't "alienate" you as much as an upright.
People just sit down with their mate, put their drinks on the table and then the magic happens: Oh, well, why not try this game while we're here?  :)

It really depends. Cocktails need space and the correct setting for them....I've seen some getting no attention at all when put right next to uprights. At Eurocade they had enough space, but even still, these cocktails should be in a restaurant/bar like setting IMHO...
And some are just more beautiful then others, my top favorite is Joust (which I played at Funspot, but that's when you really need a mate to play against), closely followed by Asteroids.

joust and asteroids are both cool cocktails, however there's no difference in gameplay to the upright (as far as i know). imho the best cocktail table (and one of the nicest as well) is the warlords cocktail, because it supports 4 players at once (which the upright doesn't), there's no joystick in an awkward gaming position to be used and - as a bonus - i think it looks really really nice. definitely high up on my want-list, but probably damn difficult to get!

all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

LOL, while I was writing that I kept thinking about a third cocktail that I wanted to list and you nailed it Ully ;)

The upright Warlords is a beautiful machine with the 3d bezel set-up but indeed Warlords must be played on th cocktail. That one I would move between Joust and Asteroids in my top list...

No love for the Atari tournament table?
It's also 4 players, basic gameplay, but really fun.
A tad too much woodgrain, maybe  ;)
