An arcade extra for Safari browser users
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:55:41 PM »
Apple just released version 5 of their Safari browser and it now includes extensions.

As I wanted to play with this I decided to make a little arcade-related extension as a test. It lets you select text on a page, right-click on the mouse, and search for that text on either KLOV or the IPDB.

I often find myself reading a post where someone mentions a game I'd like more info about, this lets you do it without having to manually open a new window/tab, go to klov, search etc…

You can get a little more info and download it here.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks,
Colin

Hey Colin,

Nice work, I downloaded Safari 5 yesterday, but I get an error when I try to install the extension, saying I have extensions disabled and telling me I can turn them on in my Safari preferences BUT I don't have the extensions icon between the security and advanced icons !?!?!

Good tip. Forgot it wasn't on by default. I've added a link.

Thanks,
Colin

Already did on KLOV, can't remember if I have a BYOAC account, I need to check :)

Have fun with the new mac, I replaced my trusty old Powermac with an iMac i5 and couldn't be happier.

I was planning arcadeflyers too, as soon as I've added preferences to activate/deactivate the individual sites in preferences so it doesn't get too crowded.
I thought about manuals too but couldn't find a complete enough source with built-in search.

In any case, I wanted it out there first before I do too much work on it for nothing :)

Geez that sucks. I was already planning on it, but this confirms that I will first have it tested fully in the store when I pick it up.

I've had too many products show some failure out of the box and I hate having to drag it back to the store.

I even had one time that I bought a new audio device, turned out to fail right away when I installed it, went back THE SAME DAY, and the assholes wanted to send it in for repair under warranty (which probably meant waiting for 3 weeks or more) ! I made a lot of fuss (and I know my rights) and demanded another (tested working) one in exchange instead. Sad that I needed to make a lot of fuss before they gave in.....also the last time I bought something from that store.

Hah, typing this from my brand new iMac. It's so FUCKING BIG :D I love it !

Specs:
27" 16:9
3.06 Mhz Intel Core 2 duo
2560x1440 resolution
4GB RAM
1 TB Hard drive
8x double layer Super drive
ATI Radeon HD4670 graphics with 256 MB

Should be good enough for the coming 3 years.....at least ;)

Now going to put all my data across with the migration assistant....(gotta love OS X) !
