Here's a video when you can hear the 'knocker' sound  :)  Q*bert vid'.

Don't miss the very end of the video, there is also an other sentence pronounced by Q*bert  ;D

As promised, here's a new video that show you the boot process (25 seconds)

I noticed you had to open the coin door and push a button to switch on the PC inside the cabinet.
Well, in my multigame emu cabinet I have it autostarting when switching on the main power switch on the back of the cabinet. In recent PC mainboards you can set to ON an option in the bios settings that have the PC restarting after a power fail. So if you connect the PC power supply to the main AC power line of the cabinet you have the PC autobooting when the cab is switched on.
Not sure if you can do it with your motherboard but I'd check into it.

Matteo

Well spotted Matteo  ;) I use to take the oldest motherboard/processor for such work, because these old game are so easy to emulate (in that case no fast animation /scrolling/ special effects), the old processor (Pentium 2 or 3 in that case) does perfectly the job in native DOS, in a perfect 60 frames per sec, no frame skipping... but unfortunately this old mobo doesn't have the option 'boot on power' :-\ It would be nice to have a small circuit that does the job if the mother board can do. I'm sure some guys in 'The Scene' already built an 'interface' for that? That is probably a common question for those who have a mame cab  8)
It's not a problem for me to switch manually the computer, because its switch is just beside the main cabinet power off/on switch, just behind the coin door  ;)

Great video's Bruno, thanks for putting them together. I love your restoration, although I always have mixed feelings with regard to using emulation in an original cab. But that's another topic.  :)

I have read every page of this thread again. GREAT !! It was a joy to see it in it's full glory Bruno !

So, I just realized we had at least TWO world-wide unique cabs at Eurocade (the Space Pirate and your French built Q*bert), at least as far as we know....

Bruno, just to ask: do you still have the mixing code for the yellow paint ?

Another question: I never really noticed but the PCB that was in there looks like a bootleg board. Does it have any brand or markings on it that it could be "original" ?
I mean, maybe they created this board for the European market and THAT got bootlegged ... Slim chance but possible.

Also (sorry to keep bugging) were there any signs/marks from old holes in the door where the original Q*bert PCB set had been mounted before ? If so this would indicate that they simply installed the original PCB set from the US (which would sound pretty logical)...

Hope you can help...

[EDIT] I see that blue PCB _was_ a boot, you mention it. I guess you got that one separately ?

Here's how this cabinet looks like when the previous owner found it

- Monitor & bezel was re-oriented in horizontal position, in order to play a 2 players fighting game
- Control panel changed for that 2 players jamma setup
- Burger Time Marquee
- The original wiring has been modified into a jamma loom.

I don't know what was the original cabinet color, obviously black? The previous owner painted it in that lovely yellow, but I don't know what yellow he used as color reference.

Yes, I got that Q*Bert blue boot board separately, by the same seller, but it wasn't that board inside the cabinet when he found it.

Great pics, really wonderful cab.
Let's hope André's will be something similar. ;D
