Documentary about DL
« on: September 17, 2009, 05:57:50 PM »
Hey everyone,
My name is Marty and I'm working on an independent film about the ongoing history of Dragon's Lair. I'm interested in what all the fans think of the idea. Dragonslairfans.com seems like one of the quintessential Dragon's Lair fansites, so it seems natural to discuss this here. I've talked to many people who have all been very helpful and willing to participate and I can't thank them enough for their time and consideration. Now I'm looking to the fans of this game for their opinions. Feel free to ask me anything you want to about my production - this film can only be helped by the fans. To describe the film briefly I guess one question that would sum up the premise would be: what makes Dragon's Lair special?

So, whaddya think?

Hi Martin and welcome to the DLF website  :-*

A documentary about Dragon's Lair is an awesome idea. I hope you'll get support of the creators team : Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, John Pomeroy, Rick Dyer. You'll have to describe the general arcade background in 1983, before the "Dragon's Lair" arrival. I'm sure you'll have of any DL Fans here regarding the enthusiasm when they saw the game for the first time. It's also a good idea to describe the enthusiasm of the fans all around the world, because as you can see, we are a lot of crazy DL fans all everywhere, and not only in US  ;)

Good luck for this project  :)

Thanks for the welcome and positive input. The creators of the game are well aware of the production and I've corresponded with Gary through email. They have a positive outlook on the production and are willing to participate so long as a few conditions are met. Currently I'm working to meet those conditions.

We obviously think alike because I've already got a brief overview of arcade games in the 80's written into the film. Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else who has questions or comments regarding anything is highly encouraged to respond so keep 'em coming.

I think there should be all the interviews that have been done over the years with Don, Gaz and crew, I find these so interesting, everything that you can get your hands on too, Magazine cut-outs, prototype stuff, I will make a list up for you to include, I think nothing should go amiss in this film.

Awesome Finny,
I've collected many articles and video snippets of the creators. Finding real stock footage that isn't just a web clip is difficult though. I appreciate your help and I look forward to more of your input. Thanks!

Good luck with your documentary. I am a big fan of the game and would like to see something like this. There is a nice clip of an explanation and contest for the game from the 80's you might find interest in. Check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAgJf1FEerk

Thanks for the post Scr33n. I appreciate how the fans have reacted so far. Darth, the only thing I need right now is for people to keep letting others know about the facebook page and the youtube clip. If anyone has any questions/comments then shoot away. The doors to communication are always open for anybody. Take care and thanks again everyone

Speaking of communication, if anyone is a member of the forums over at KLOV then there is a quite a decent thread growing. You can find out more about the film there. Link is below for anyone interested.
