Restoration: Zaccaria Circus cabinet
« on: March 21, 2018, 04:44:10 PM »
Sunday I picked up a zaccaria Space Pirate (see my post in artwork section)

yesterday I did buy a circus cabinet made by Exidy/zaccaria.

Pictures down below are the ones made by the seller.
I started cleaning the cabinet right away yesterday evening and didn't took pics of the "found in condition"

condition of this cabinet is a bit worse as the space pirate
side art ok but a lot of scratches and very dirty (but cleans up easily)
quit a lot of damaged wood like missing edges, corners , etc but has original back door with a lock and key.
CPO is messed with (changed controls) but it looks to be the original metal panel ( hinges looks original) but i will have a better look when removing joysticks and buttons.
internal wooden layers are cut up , replaced or messed with
no pcb
replaced monitor and power supply , very dirty, and smelly (moist)
bezel is orignal and in good condition. graphics are not full sized as compared to the US cabinets. its missing a big part of the clown and cannon, on first inspection  this lower edge looks straight and not messed with, so it might be installed like this.

? does any one know how these graphics were applied to the glass? are this watertransfer?
Might it be possible that they cut a part of the transfer before applying?
the zaccaria flyer does have a picture with the full bezel, similar like the US version.

So i guess I will try to get he cabinet restored, same idea as the Space Pirate, so outside as close as possible to original , inside for the moment "mame"-ish.

Does anyone know if the CPO was the same as the US version?
and which controls it had?
2 buttons (which type?) and was it a rotary stick (like break-out) or was it a strange 'puck-like' joystick

thanks
what should i do with the  red and blue balloons? should i touch them up or leave them like it is.

"Mame" not sure yet.
I bought a pandoras box 5S and I have a raspberry pi laying around.
So i think i will run retropie on the Pi
I don't think circus is on PB 5S, but i should be able to find a rom for retropie.
and i will be running everything on a new monitor screen.
so basically i will restore the cabinet (keep as much of the stuff original so it's reversable) and put in new electronics.
one of the cabinets will go the holiday house on the kids bedroom so they can play "old school games".

i did already some work on the space pirate custom control panel overlay.
i probably do one for the circus swell.

Etienne, thanks for the picture.
it looks like a US version.
the only reference picture i found of the zac circus is on a flyer at TAFA
is has different side art (chimp with balloons) and seems to have ZZZ logo on CP

but the pictures is a good reference for the controls used.
