How does the trackball work with running, i never saw it in action
is it a matter of spinning it as fast as possible, or move it left to right very fast like the buttons ?

Difficult to say for sure since the trackballs are with rollers broken so they barely moves.
But from what i see it should be moves by rolling the trackball in one direction only.

pew... i guss i would change it back to the button-solution since this is the original setup for the machine. i only know it with buttons anyway.
Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!

Yes, you have to roll the trackball to one side. To easy imho, you cannot compare the results with the button style version. I converted my T&F back, it was hard to find the original button style metal cp. Here is my cab after some work, new cp and sidearts.
