Nintendo TSC cocktail : which game?
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:43:49 AM »
(also posted on KLOV)

Just got a TSC (TSC-GM) cocktail cab that really, really looks like a Nintendo.
But no Nintendo markings anywhere : neither on the serial plate nor on the Control Panels... and unfortunately no PCB but an edge connector.
Has the original Nintendo wiring bee hacked?
There is also a Galaxian instruction sheet (in German) under the glass.

When I look at the manual from the KLOV thread , I have the exact table pictured on the schematics.
Also, I see dipswitches that are similar to the "classical" Galaxian.
And the schematics of the 2 PCBS & rom board when put side by side also look like a Galaxian...
as well as some refernces on the wiring schematics such 41, 42, 44 which lead me to believe the 44-pin edge connector may be original after all

So dropping an unconventionnal and possibly stupid idea : could that be a Galaxian-in-a-Nintendo cab i.e. some sort of collaboration between Namco and Nintendo?
Or Namco using Nintendo cocktail production lines to issue a few Galaxian cocktails?

Ever heard of something similar?
Could some enlighten me?

NB : the seller just told me he bought it in Germany and it comes from a whorehouse. :) :) :)
Dreaming of a Namco Galaxian waiting in a barn for me... somewhere! A Nintendo Sheriff would also make me happy. And a SNK Sasuke Vs Commanders or a SEGA Samurai... Argh too many; in fact!

It seems to be the same panel but apparently Space Launcher is TDL as per Chuckie Egg.
And my screen has a small burn "High Score" in the middle top.

But not a bad guess.

Where did you get this picture?

Got it.
It's from Alex's reto thread on UKVAC.
http://www.ukvac.com/forum/space-launcher-nintendo_topic337358.html
Same panel, same shell but different markings on the serial number plate.

Usual but I don't think you have a space launcher.
Have you got it working yet ?
Space launcher is TDL

It's slowly being transformed into a Sheriff.
I have all the parts except the decorative Sheriff aluminum control panel plates.

I've rewired everything since the PSU is not the original TSF-CL-PP
(I have one but the +5V sometimes disappears).

And I've tried to plug in my non-working PCB.
This is what I get so far...
At least I know the screen is working.

By the way, I only have 11.7V for the 12V, is that a potential issue?

Finally found the appropriate PCB on eBay.
The guy advertised it as a Nintendo Space Fever...
Weird but why not?

The boards look identical to what is in the Nintendo TSC manual I found on KLOV (down to the ROM daughterboard).
And the harness that was in my cocktail perfectly fits the PCB...
From the manual I was just missing a color inverter board but I decided to fire it up without it.
At worst I would just have wrong colors...

And I have..... a Galaxian!!!!
(I just need ot invert the colors).
And the text seems to correspond to the slight burn in that was on the monitor...

So this would seem to strenghten the idea of  a possible collaboration between Nintendo and Namco in a similar way as for Bomb Bee etc...

What do you guys think?

That doesn't look anyting like a Space Fever pcb?

I didn't think that Nintendo did a Galaxian, but it could be possible?

For sure it is far from a Space Fever PCB! :)
I will try to ask if Namco licensed Galaxian to nintendo in the same way as Bomb Bee...
