SUPER BREAKOUT pcb problems
« on: December 01, 2015, 11:36:46 AM »
When I power up the PCB I've garbage only on the screen. No differences between test mode and play mode,
and I have a continuous sound all the time.

I changed the 6502 but I had no results.

Do you have any idea? Once the test mode starts I can proceed alone but now I'm quite lost...

 ???

Check if there is any clock frequency.....and look if the crystal is actually there or maybe broken. Wouldn't be the first time...

I did a full on SBO repair a while back, link here https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=6213.0  I think you need to check the reset line (Pin 40 of the CPU). I expect it is pulsing high & low constantly, meaning the game code cannot run properly as you are experiencing, I should be low at power on and then stay high. Check your clock signal is actually getting into the CPU on pin 37. Then you need to look at the Address & Data bus line coming from the CPU. Check the signal are passing through those IC's A2,B2,C2 for Address Bus and E3 & E4 for the Data bus.

I've had IC failures in all area's mentioned, so at a minimum you will need to hunt signals down with a logic probe.

Good luck, keep us updated.

Cheers, Mart.

ok, now the RAM test starts but gives a bad ram sound on RAM/BIT 6. most of RAMs have been replaced, 5, 6 and 7 included
if I remove RAM 7 then RAM 6 has a low tone (as it was good) and the high tone is on  RAM 7
Replacing one of both RAMs haven't any effect.
I replaced:
ADDRESSES
A2, B2, C2 that have in input the AB0..9 signals from the CPU having ADR0..9 as output
H2, J2, K2 that have in input AB0..9 having A0..9 as output
DATA
E3, E4 with input D0..7 and output DBUS0..7
H5, J5 that make a NOT on DOUT
F5, K5 that in some way are connected to DOUT6 / D6

Any idea?
Do you have any experience about wrong RAM error? I mean: beep says RAM x is faulty but actually RAM y is.

This board is not mine but owns to the inventor of OFF LIMITS
When I visited hos warehouse some weeks ago he asked me this favor promising me to spend some time to look for old documents and stuff  :P

Ah my fault.
Replacing the 7404 in J5 I shorted D6 and D7
Now works

What I repaired was a standard SUPER BREAKOUT. He has a BERTOLINO Super Breakout cab and asked me to put it in working conditions.
He told me he preserved a lot of OFF LIMITS documents and boards, I'm taking care of him  ;D
