Midway Galaxian No 106!!! You are now mine!!!
« on: June 02, 2015, 10:33:59 PM »
Guys,

Thanks to neocps1 from this forum, I am now the proud owner of Galaxian No 106.
An early machine if I'm not mistaken, fitted with this weird black textured T molding...
It's in good working order and from what I understood only the monitor has been changed and the control panel has been modified (why this green second fire button?).

Besides all that,  I have noticed that the side arts seem a little different from the usual one.
The bottom part of the Galaxian text is blue not white; I have seen this feature only on an old German ad...
Can anyone shed some light for me on this particularity please?

:)

Dreaming of a Namco Galaxian waiting in a barn for me... somewhere! A Nintendo Sheriff would also make me happy. And a SNK Sasuke Vs Commanders or a SEGA Samurai... Argh too many; in fact!

Wooooooooohooooooo, congrats buddy, you do realize that that is the SEVENTH Galaxian that rolled out of the factory at Midway ?

They started serial numbering at 100 !

This is now officially the lowest known serial number and you beat RobinHolland with a couple....he has 171 IIRC.

This also proves a theory that Robin and I have that somehow, the very early games have ended up in Europe. I had ser.nr. 815, also a low number. Mine had the black leathered T-molding too but it did NOT have that side-art version. Robin's does have it though. I seriously hope you keep the black leather T-molding (or replace it with the same but new) because it is indeed like the flyer shows (not just the German flyer, that only has a bigger picture of it). The one like you and Robin have are as they were on the flyer so IMHO the very original first Midway version.

May is ask where you found this and does it show in which country it has been ? (Coin insert, maybe a license or dealer note inside) ?

Awesome find indeed !

By the way, that joystick is of course not the original. You'd need to find a Midway two-way joystick, that's not too hard, but if you want to go 100% like the flyer you'll need a white ball top instead of the more common red one. oh well....spray paint works :)

The seventh?
Ouh!!! Awesone news.
Can you tell me why they started the number at 100?

And from what I know this machine has been in France for a while: the two previous owners were French and the coin inserts are in French Francs.
It would seem to confirm your theory.
I've found yet no dealer mark inside but when I have a little time I'll take a closer look.
However I remember that the PCB has a sticker with a round red japanese marking... some quality seal maybe? (sorry guys for the bad quality of the pic)

By the way I intend to keep as close to the original as possible so I'll keep the black molding and do the least amount of modifications... basically some work on the panel to bring it back to its original state, some touch up on the blue and white paints in the few areas that need it and put some new locks.
Otherwise nothing else is planned: I like it when I see a machine that has (small) marks that tell its age.

And I think you're right, I'll need a white ball... too bad I've already found a joystick but with a red ball...

Dreaming of a Namco Galaxian waiting in a barn for me... somewhere! A Nintendo Sheriff would also make me happy. And a SNK Sasuke Vs Commanders or a SEGA Samurai... Argh too many; in fact!

no 171

Thanks for the pics :)
I get it that at least the first hundred or so machines had this blue bottom Galaxian text that they changed later on.
Possibly because from a disctance you read Galaxian better in green/white rather than in green/blue.

I think you're right. I'm the proud owner of the Midway Pac-Man #137. Unfortunetly it was paint in white by the previous owner...

I read it in the Galaxian documentation that I've got here, official Midway stuff.

I think it's safe to assume the same happend for Pac Man and their other machines.

Yes I totally agree about why they changed the "blue bottom", it just doesn't read well, we actually already discussed this when Robin put pics up of his Galaxian.

Nice to hear you keep it original ! And you're lucky to have a working set-up still ! :)

Argh i bought exactly the same one (with a black ball joystick) from quarterarcade 4 days ago... And it cost me 60 bucks on transportation.... I should be less impatient sometimes.

By the way would you be so kind as to give me the references of the Midway docs on the serial numbers? (Or possibly a picture of the page if it is not asking too much?)

 ;D

Totally agree with this, it adds charm to our old classic games.  :)

Despite the scars I like the tags from 80ies kids on cabs too. Somebody wrote "Bruce Lee" on the side of my Tank Battalion. I love it! ;D
