What game might have been in this Zaccaria Universal cockpit?
« on: February 23, 2015, 12:06:46 AM »
Hi,
I've dug out a Zaccaria Universal cockpit to work on. It's missing the game PCB and portions of the controls so I'm trying to figure out what game it might have been used with. Below is what I know so far - anyone recognize this pinout or a game matching this configuration?

Code: [Select]
Horizontal monitor, colour, standard resolution.
22-way edge connector.
Likely 1982-1985 date range.
n/c - not connected (no wire).
?   - connected (unknown to where)

Unknowns:
 Fire button(s).
 Coin input.

There is a empty slot wired for a foot pedal. The connector for it has GND/+5V so possibly an analogue output.
There is a 2-pin connector "hacked" in and an empty spot in the control panel potentially for a "Hi/Lo" shifter.
There was a digital single switch "Hi/Lo" shifter in the bottom of the cab.
U/D/L/R are digital inputs from a dual handled "flight stick" sort of contraption (the same thing that's on Buck Rogers).

I'm coming to the conclusion that this must have been shipped in the same configuration as Buck Rogers and that it's been converted or attempted to be converted to another game that I can't figure out.

The kickers:
 - The monitor is horizontal and front facing, suggesting a 1st person view.
 - There is only one start button.
 - There is a 2-pin foot pedal wiring (based on a 4-pin harness)
 - There is R & L fire buttons.
 - The control is digital 8-way.
 - The edge connector has solder on n/c pins suggesting it's a potential after-factory rewire.

Buck Rogers has DIP switches that allow it to work in this configuration and it mostly perfectly matches the cockpit Buck Rogers setup described in the Sega manual. In the absence of any better match, I think I'm going to go for Buck Rogers. That said, I'm short of the pedal assembly :(

Paul.
