Loved that game on the C64 (the trick was to use the auto-fire on your joystick when you reached a gate) and of course I adored the totally unforgiving arcade version too!
Do you know the space themed version? "Space Invasion"
I discovered it in MAME years ago but never saw it BITD.
Great addition Bruno!

I just read that "Space Invasion" was made because the awesome german "Bundesprüfstelle" indexed Commando for "glorification of violence". But replacing soldiers with white robots didn´t help. They indexed SI as well.
Somehow this didn´t stop us from playing those games

The C64 version started to stutter when the soldiers ran out of the gates and there was a spot next to the right door where the enemy soldiers just could not hit you. So all you had to was staying there and keep firing. But you really had to stand exactly at that pixel, otherwise it would´nt work.

It never did.....Raid over Moscow, Beach Head, etc.
Does someone remember Paratroopers on C64? Well, this was a stupid game and indexed as well but we played it.

We were addicted to Barbarian on the C64 and Golden Axe on the Amiga. Every indexed game was a magnet for all teenagers back in the days.
- "Look, I have this new game here, wanna try it?"
- "Never heard of it. Is it indexed?"
- "Yes, man."
- "Then it must be GOOD!"

All in all, it's a miracle I became a peaceful geek even after playing constantly games like Commando, Green Beret, Combat School, Rambo and many more during a period of time when my brain was very malleable...

Because we killed billions of people, destroyed numerous cities, planets and whole galaxys on the screen, the real thing eventually felt boring.

Don´t want to hijack this one, but speaking of games banned in germany: i think everyone with who had a C64 or 2600 played and loved River Raid:

River Raid was the first video game to be banned for minors in West Germany by the Federal Department for Writings Harmful to Young Persons (German: Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Schriften). The indexation notes of 19 December 1984 explains that, in River Raid, "minors are intended to delve into the role of an uncompromising fighter and agent of annihilation (...). It provides children with a paramilitaristic education (...). With older minors, playing leads (...) to physical cramps, anger, aggressiveness, erratic thinking (...) and headaches." (BPjS-Aktuell Heft 2/84)

Hi Bruno,

thanks for the nice day and the Galaxian experience :)

Glad you like Commando.

Seems we need to come back soon, hence I forgot to take the EUROCADE stuff with me (CPOs).

@Tyrem? Check your calender  :roll:
