Guided Missile - Restoration
« on: August 23, 2014, 04:48:04 PM »
OK, so you guys will face a Guided Missile on Eurocade 2014. Let me tell you the story behind the cab.

It's been a while since I got the cab along with Atari's Dominos. Guided Missile is already in the gameroom while Dominos is running, but has flaws that will be gone by replacing the connector on the adapter PCB.

Guided Missile was made by Midway in 1977. Two players can play simultaneously. The goal is to shoot missiles at different vessels....trucks, tanks, copters, jets, submarines and ships. You launch the missile and once it has reached the top of the screen and is descending you can use the joystick to move it a little bit left or right. Once a missile was launched you have to wait for the next missile to be brought in place. When the game starts time is counting down. When the countdown is at zero the game is over. You can earn additional play time be reaching a specified amount of points.

I had to do some woodwork with the Guided Missile and Klaus-Peter and Dirk took care of the electronics. Some, if not all, ICs for the single background sounds were blown and had to be replaced. Plus there were some minor problems. While troubleshooting Klaus-Peter found a bug in the schematics ;)

I will add details and pictures about the "hardware" work in the next days.

Here are some pictures how it looks NOW and a little bit about the gameplay:

The upper part of the bezel, the marquee, is lit by a row of small bulbs

Two of them were dead.....

The landscape in the background is not a piece of cardboard but a large piece of molded plastic. Love it very much.
Here you also see the two explosion plastics. If either player hits one of the vessels the light bubl behind the plastic is lit for a second.

...to be continued

Being from another generation I never played games like this nor seen them. Must say it looks very pretty and I'll go give it a try at eurocade

Thanks for your comments :)

I have made a video of the gameplay but I don't know where I saved it :(

But there's a good video on YT explaining the cabinet and the gameplay...enjoy :

I totally dig games from this era (and earlier - after all, I have a row of EM games in my basement). Great project!
