I read a lot about that japanese Galaxian Cabinet and wonder what it is all about?

From what I understood the difference to the italian Bortolino is the bigger, greenish coindoor, the joystick-control rather than left/right-buttons and of course that rectangular player 1/2-buttons...is that correct?

There are only 2 units that are known to exist, the one from Level42 (great band) and the japanese arcade-museum?

What would such a cab worth if it is so rare and such saught after-piece?

Yes that is correct but there are more differences:
- Japanese has (at least) one more color in the side art, which IMHO makes it even more beautiful
- the process of the side art seems very different
- the bezel has a silver color in it, where the Betrolino has white

Is the Artwork of the japanese cabinet and the bezel vectorized.....if not we have duty, Level42.

I agree Gyruss :)

The Bertolino version is vectorized but The Japanese is not.
I -think- they are quite similar but I'm not sure if the sizes are exactly the same. at least the colors are different and as mentioned, I think the Japanese one has one extra color.

Indeed we have a duty there.....I was hoping Mr. McGyver would bring his magic scanner one day but there is no hurry. I have not the right scanner nor the skills.

For the colors, there are Pantone numbers on the original peace of artwork that is on that Japanese website.....not sure if all colors are listed there.

Side art to compare colors....note that this was in direct evening sunlight so colors look a bit more yellow:

Untitled by Level_42, on Flickr

They clearly didn't use the blue color for the outline of the space ship. However judging by the Galaxian logo on that Japanese picture the other colors are spot on !

Well, it's pretty clear they didn't use that blue on the outer rims of the alien spaceship but a different tone of green.

The lacking color in the Euro Galaxians is the green inside the wings as you can see here:

Would be great if Béla or Muerto could make a straight picture if the side art of their cabs and maybe the kick plate too, to make some better comparing possible.

Mr MacGyver will bring his scanner one day, but first i will put that to use to a certain bezel...  ;)

I am a graphic designer (now industrial designer)

I can get the sideart scanned and the fractals mated together.....but vectorizing is not my stuff.

What is the best see-through scanner for performing that work nowadys and how much is it?

I have and love the HP 4670:

there is also a hp4600 model, i dont know about that, but i guess its the same for the way we use them.

to me the only difference i can spot is that one is horizontal and the other vertical if you use the stand.

HP 4600 and 4670 series

do use a guide when scanning, i can tell you that from experience  ;D 8) ::)
