Frozen Defender screen
« on: February 09, 2013, 09:32:50 PM »
Hi all,

Today I got around to working on my Defender a bit.
Replaced all the boards, and finally... a working Defender!
Everything looked fine, apart from a minor screen issue.
So, I thought, let's try a monitor test...
and then, all of a sudden, the screen froze!

Powering off and on does not help
Any suggestions on what could be wrong and what to do?

Thanks!

Marco

Well, i am not really an expert in fixing PCB 's, but first of all i would check the voltages (in particular the 5V of the logic). Those old boards are well known to be voltage-sensible

Do you have a complete freeze or a reboot?

I've had something similiar with my Robotron. Those Williams-PCBs have lots of connectors and they stand for lots of problems. Power off the cab, remove all connections between the PCBs, then simply re-install them. Clean connectors/pins where possible (i.e. with a fiber glass pen).

Loads of info about Williams problems on KLOV forum and on the internet. Williams games are indeed known for bad connectors.
Measure the voltages on your PCB to see if they are too low.

I still have that connector replacement set from Bob Roberts if you need it Marco ! Just let me know :)

Thanks for all the advice, I'll go try to clean the connectors tomorrow.

Andre, what's that connector replacement set again?

Cheers, Marco
